My ideal client is one who commits to therapy and is willing to allow me to help them learn how to face their issues and resolve them. I believe in honesty, even if it means telling someone things difficult to hear. We must have honesty in order for me to help them help themselves. I want every client I see to leave therapy feeling as if they are a better version of themselves and enjoy their life. I tell my clients that my job is to work myself out of a job. There is a quote from C.S. Lewis that I feel describes my therapeutic perspective. "Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny..." - C. S. Lewis

Change is the only constant in life. Our lives are constantly changing; we ourselves are evolving. With those changes come challenges, often mental and emotional. We learn and we grow through all of these changes. However, we often feel overwhelmed, hopeless, or just generally unable to cope with things. It's easy to let the changes in life weigh us down and take control, but I want to help you grow from your struggles and all of life's changes. As John Maxwell said, “Change is inevitable. Growth is optional," so let's grow together.

I am licensed in OK and AR and offer virtual and in-person appointments. I believe taking on life's day-to-day stressors can sometimes feel overwhelming and uncontrollable. Which leads us to feel anxious, sad, and frustrated which further impacts our ability to balance each facet of our lives. It is during these strenuous times that counseling may benefit you in creating clarity and encouragement through the chaos. As a counselor, it is my privilege to provide a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive environment to process these concerns.

Lena Horne once wisely said, "it’s not the load that breaks you, but the way you carry it." As a therapist who has seen a lot of life, I'd be honored to become that trusted traveling companion that shares the load and helps lighten your burden. Whether you're grieving, stuck, a survivor, or just struggling emotionally, I've been there and get it. Together, I believe we can chart a plan for you to regain control over your life and step towards new possibilities for peace and joy. My approach is direct but gentle, honest but kind, and always warm and conversation.

Deep emotional pain, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem can be symptoms of trauma or abuse. It can feel overwhelming until you just "don't want to do this anymore". Maybe you've read or heard about others who are experiencing relationship problems, have PTSD symptoms, are deeply sad or experiencing panic attacks, and you know exactly how it feels. "Normal" life has its ups and downs, but if you resonate with any of the above, you have probably experienced some abnormally stressful, traumatic life events. Any of them can become barriers to making and keeping meaningful connections with others or leading productive lives.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
