Do you struggle to be truly authentic or know yourself? There is freedom in taking off the masks you feel you need to wear to protect yourself, or who you believe others need you to be. Therapy involves change, a healing that brings your real self to life, but change isn't always easy. Therapy is an investment, and you aren’t investing your time and money to talk with a “friend.” If you're looking for that kind of therapist, that's not me. I have a direct and active approach to therapy. While being genuine and empathetic, I will confront and challenge the beliefs that keep you from living as your authentic self.

I like to think I have a unique skill set coupled with life experience that equips me to be a dynamic therapist. I served as a Marine in the military, spent 20 years working in the pathology field looking at healing the body, and now work with clients from 5 years old to older adults healing the mind. I value your experience and how it has shaped your core beliefs. But just because we have these beliefs doesn’t make them true. Together, we can assign new rules to these beliefs and heal the system as a whole—both body and mind.

As a marriage and family therapist, my hope is to help each couple and family to overcome the unique struggles that they face. I want to help everyone recognize and appreciate the valuable qualities that each person contributes to the relationship. Also, for them to understand how their differences can be the building block in becoming a foundation of comfort, strength, and peace. I share these same aspirations for my individual clients as well, so they can reach their personal, relational, and life ambitions through achieving mental health and wellbeing.

Anxiety can feel overwhelming, exhausting, and isolating. It may show up as panic attacks, constant overthinking, fear in social situations, or the quiet pressure of high-functioning anxiety. You might experience a racing heart, restless thoughts, perfectionism, or a persistent fear of “what if.” Whether anxiety feels paralyzing or hides behind achievement and people-pleasing, it can shape your daily life in ways that leave you drained and disconnected. But it doesn’t have to stay that way.

Things have been off for a while. You can’t point to a single reason why – it’s just that life doesn’t feel like it used to. You wake up already tired, wondering how you got so far from the person you used to be. It’s hard to stay focused, and even harder to find joy in the things that once came easily. There’s a sense of uneasiness you can’t shake. Some days, it’s the constant pressure in your chest. Other days, it’s the fog that makes everything feel distant. You’re running on autopilot, showing up where you need to, saying what you’re supposed to say – but deep down, you know something isn’t right.

My focus is to help individuals and families achieve the stability and the level of functioning that they desire through helping decrease symptoms and strengthen relationships with others. I am a strong believer in the power of the counselor and client relationship. The counseling relationship provides a safe environment, free from judgment, which allows a person to address challenges from the past or present with the ability to write a new ending. Through the counseling relationship an individual can become empowered to overcome any challenge by reaching a healthy point of self-acceptance.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
