I want to start by saying that I truly hold a solid belief that each and every human deserves to feel happiness, love, excitement, contentment, and ultimately to achieve their dreams, desires, goals, and best-selves! I implement an integrative approach, with a craving to help. Whether that assistance be with an individual navigating ADHD, a person learning to cope with anxiety/depression, a couple for growth & change, entire family in need, I am devoted to seeking out and destroying the obstacles, strongholds, cognitive distortions, or whatever the “problem” is that is impeding their ability to live happy, healthy, fulfilled lives.

My ideal clients are adults, couples, and parents who are tired of feeling stuck and ready for real change. They often reach out because of addiction, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or parenting challenges. I help them move forward by working as a team to define their goals, values, and dreams for their life, and identifying what steps we are ready to take to be moving in that direction.

"Over the past few years, the demand for mental health services has increased. The field of mental health, in efforts to meet this demand, has caused the technique of counseling to become commercialized. When I created Harris & Harris my mission was to create a business practice that was ethically driven to get back to the basics of counseling. Customer volume should never be a measurement of success within a business, but providing consistent quality service should always be a measurement standard."

I believe that we are all equipped with an inner guidance system that pushes us to grow anytime we are out of alignment with our highest selves. Oftentimes, this guidance comes in the form of pain or emotional discomfort. Many of us may identify this pain as depression or anxiety symptoms, feelings of inadequacy, low-self-esteem, grief, anger, fear, or hopelessness. The ways in which we respond to our pain has tremendous implications for future healing and overall quality of life. Action is necessary in order to create change. If you have arrived at this page then you have already begun taking action to improve your circumstances.

You can count on NCI Psychiatry & Counseling. You can find professional counseling, psychiatry, psychological testing or cutting edge TMS therapy. TMS, or Transcranial Magnetic Therapy, is likely to reduce your depressive symptoms or even eliminate depression from your life altogether. When drugs are either not helping or causing unwanted side effects you could find lasting relief without drugs. The treatment is painless, has no side effects, and is covered by most insurance.

You may look like you're holding it all together on the outside, but inside you're exhausted, anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Trauma can affect the way you think, feel, and respond to everyday situations, leaving you constantly on edge, disconnected, or struggling to find relief from anxiety and depression.

Hi there, I'm Matthew! I have been working in the mental health field for over 25 years, the last 14 years in the field of substance abuse. I have experience working in many different settings, from schools to nursing homes. For the last 5 years, I have worked with active duty Marines, which I have absolutely loved. My ideal client is open-minded and willing to make the necessary changes in their lives. I know that change is really hard for most of us, but the key to personal growth is willingness

Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
