There are many reasons people seek counseling; regardless of the reasons, I believe an enhanced sense of self understanding and acceptance is essential in all situations (this includes understanding how past experiences have shaped the way we view ourselves, as well as how we understand relating to others). Therapy provides a safe place to explore reactions, thoughts, and feelings about people in your life as well as yourself. It allows you the opportunity to practice new ways of interacting and, when ready, to try these in other relationships.

Traditional talk therapy has limited benefits. Insight alone is not sufficient to generate change. Lasting change comes from addressing core beliefs which originate in childhood, and lead to habitual (and generally unconscious) ways of perceiving ourselves and the outside world. Thus 'our lives run us' rather than 'we run our lives'. Western culture tends to draw us away from ourselves to the outer world of materialism, competition and achievement. Mindfulness helps us to turn inward, attuning with the body, leading to the discovery of core beliefs that impede our ability to make healthy choices.

My clients are adults, adolescents, and children who need help coping with anxiety, depression, anger, trauma, abuse, educational/employment situations, family dynamics, or other problems impacting their mental health. Though I practice Cognative Behavioral Therapy, I employ a variety of methods including "talk therapy", EMDR, sand therapy, and play therapy, depending upon individual need. I strive to provide unconditional acceptance and support to my clients as they work to achieve their counseling goals. I accept Medicaid and most private insurance.
