I offer an attuned, flexible form of evidence-based therapy that treats you as a unique person--not just a set of symptoms. Surprising though it may sound, your emotional distress is meaningful. It contains patterns and also clues that allow you to better know yourself and overcome obstacles to your goals. As an experienced psychologist, I'll help you to pinpoint these patterns and decipher these clues.

Men, are you stuck feeling like no matter what you do in your relationship, you just can't seem to connect the dots and see the success you have been striving for? Do you feel like your partner hasn't prioritized you? Do you want to think clearly and make wise choices? You want to feel less of a burden? You want to be able to plan in advance about what you think, say and do? You want more control over your emotions? Do you want to take your rightful place in your partners mind?

My approach is rooted in the belief that no matter what a person has going on, there is always an internal compass guiding them towards integration. In my sessions, I draw on Depth/Jungian frameworks, Buddhism, parts work, and polyvagal theory. I also incorporate creativity therapy and non-verbal therapies, such as dreams and somatics.

Life can be overwhelming for people who have experienced a trauma, lost hope in finding happiness from within, or are having difficulties coping with the stressors of everyday life. I believe in strengthening clients to restore healthy lives through self-determination & meeting the client where they are at. Do you find yourself struggling to connect with others? Do you struggle in relationships of all kinds, feel like you don't fit in or are constantly misunderstood? I will be your advocate to love yourself and to feel more connected in your relationships and to the world around you. In therapy we will work to increase your feelings of self-worth, improve relationships, and reignite that spark that has been seemingly lost.

I work with individuals and families who are struggling with difficult issues such as depression, divorce, or mental illness. Conflicts, within and between people, lie at the core of emotional distress. Divorce, depression, substance abuse make setting healthy boundaries difficult, and before the individual knows it, he or she is living in a state of compromise. I focus on people who are wanting to get out of a compromised state and build healthy relationships that protect personal space and are conducive to reciprocity.

There is more to life than coping, and you are not a walking problem. You might be seeking counseling because you are suffering, but it is my hope that you find a life worth truly living. My clients struggle with everything from internalized hopelessness, people pleasing, "playing small," and social anxiety to anger, highs and lows, reactivity and addiction. These really are intelligent ways of adapting for a specific point in time, but they prove to be pretty maladaptive by the time the search for counseling begins.

I often work with clients who struggle to accept and feel compassion for their whole self. Sometimes that can look like trying to shut out painful experiences, worrying that something is "wrong" with you, or struggling to connect with your true desires and feelings. I offer clients a warm space to process the injuries they carry from the broader world and from the intimate world of family, friends, and other relationships. I invite clients to bring the complete selves, even the parts that are hard to be with. I strive to provide the tools and support to help clients connect to a fuller sense of aliveness and groundedness.

Hello, my name is Shenetra Morgan and I was born to help others. I love to help people overcome their past experiences, learn how to benefit from them, and help them to achieve their personal goals. I know that we all have our struggles in life and sometimes just need someone to listen, support, and help us to work through things. I am a firm believer that God didn't place all these people on Earth for us to have to go through anything alone. How can I be of service to you?

Hi! I'm Jacqui. I have been a therapist for 31 years. Times have changed and so has counseling! Today's clients are troubled by many things that cause stress and anxiety, not to mention trauma. It's understandable given what we deal with on a daily basis.

My work is relationally focused and I often utilize EMDR to help individuals resolve trauma that is being triggered in their relationships and change negative beliefs that are impacting their daily lives. I often work with individuals that are hoping to change behavior that is impacting their relationships and couples that are hoping to shift out of dynamics that are not working for them. I help individuals meet the goals that are most important to them, and I work to help improve the relationship of couples. I believe our partners can guide us to be our best selves, and show us what is unresolved for us from our history.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
