I have experience with individuals struggling with ADHD, behavioral issues, anxiety, depression, ODD, OCD, domestic violence, learning disabilities, attachment issues, family struggles, low self esteem, stress, to name a few. There are many modes of therapy that I incorporate into my work as no one approach works for everyone. I believe my approach to helping people is unique.

I am a empathetic psychologist with various experiences in clinical and educational settings. I use an integrative approach to therapy that incorporates a variety of therapeutic principles, philosophies, and techniques from Behavior Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based and/or Play Therapy. I joined AHRC/ Brookville Center for Children Services in 2004 as an Applied Behavior Analysis consultant, providing parent training and direct care for home based programs utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis for school age individuals diagnosed with Autism and later obtained the role as the program supervisor from 2012-2015.

Compassion is one key used in treating children and adolescents with anxiety, depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and other difficulties together with their parents. In addition to guiding children to strategies to manage adversity, I teach parents how to reinforce these tactics at home between sessions. With this method, children improve quicker than they would with just one hour per week of treatment.

My ideal client is trying to understand not only the root causes that created a less than optimal life functioning emotionally, socially, occupationally, academically, or intrafamilially, but the actual cognitive behavioral steps to remedy the problem. I'm a licensed clinical psychologist and certified school psychologist, specializing in treating children, adolescents, and families using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) in homes, schools and the community. CBT treatment is highly recommended for anxiety, impulse, and conduct disorders. While it is well-established that CBT within real-world settings significantly improves functioning compared to office-based treatment, few professionals accept the challenge! There she spent many years under the supervision of Dr. Charles Golden refining her skills in Neuropsychology serving a variety of children with learning disorders and developmental disabilities. After completing graduate school, Dr. Avon pursued further training in the areas of Autism Spectrum Disorders and other Developmental Disabilities.
