My clients are people, mostly women, who have suffered Adverse Childhood Experiences and recognize that their survival/coping behaviors are limiting their life and personal potential. Issues of long-term stress cause debilitating anxiety, eating issues, and emotional dysregulations that limit their life. I work with people who have been diagnosed with chronic or life-threatening illnesses, breast cancer in particular, and who are willing to make the connections between the long-term effect of toxic stress and illness. They are determined to improve health on all levels and move from surviving to thriving and manifest their purpose.

I am a clinical social worker with a practice in both the Berkshires and Brooklyn. I approach my work with compassion to create a safe space to allow clients to explore what is holding them back or causing them distress. I believe the work of therapy is to empower each of us to build the life we seek. Depression and anxiety can interfere with our ability to create and relate and achieve. Working with a therapist you trust can remove roadblocks and allow a person to be and feel more authentic.

I provide comprehensive neuropsychological assessments and evidenced-based psychotherapy for children, families, and young adults. My approach is collaborative and active, with emphasis on building a strong alliance, then working towards achieving desired goals. I operate within a systemic and multidisciplinary framework that includes parents and collaboration with educators/other providers when needed. This makes me an effective therapist & neuropsychologist at evaluating/working with youth that struggle with disruptive behaviors, emotional regulation difficulties, trauma, anxiety, mood difficulties, and academic challenges.

Over the past 20 years I have learned that my clients come to therapy to be heard, understood, and to make sense of the complicated issues and relationships in their lives. People begin therapy for many reasons; feeling stuck, overwhelmed, confused or consumed with anxiety and depression. Couples come to therapy to improve their communication, to increase their co-parenting skills, or to enhance their emotional and physical intimacy. A good psychotherapy relationship can improve your feeling of well-being. It can be helpful during periods of transition and provide a safe place to explore past traumas or recent losses.

My approach to treatment is interactive and engaging. I find that clients appreciate and benefit from an active therapist that will help identify areas of difficulty and work on initiating changes rather than a passive, primarily listening approach to treatment. A comfortable fit between therapist and client is an essential part of successful work together. Consistent with that, I'm happy to do a phone consultation so you can get a sense of how I approach this process. In terms of insurance, if you have out-of-network benefits we should be able to make therapy affordable.

Email contact preferred, limited openings available. Being human is wild. We forget that fact when in the midst of our struggles and problems, so having someone help us find perspective can make all the difference. I have worked with folks navigating anxiety, depression, grief, dual diagnosis, intersectionality, and folks within the 2SLGBTQ+ community. What I offer is a space to simply be you, as you access the rest of who you are, so you are not defined by your struggle. I work with individuals 18 years or older only.

I don’t like stating what disorders I treat. Diagnoses are limiting. I work with people, and people are complicated. Sure, you have symptoms that bother you, or you wouldn’t be looking at therapists on this site. But your symptoms vary, and you may not be clear about their origins or why they persist.

We're only on Earth for a little while: too short a time to spend it indulging bad habits, ignoring our talents, suffering inadequate relationships. Personal Coaching has two main goals. First, it helps you to notice and release your fear, resentment, self-destructive sorrow -- the whole range of negative habits in thought, feeling and behavior. Second, it helps you to give your gifts to the world: your talents, your capacities, your joy. On every level, coaching enhances your relationships: with family, partner, co-workers and friends, with this amazing Earth, and with your own sense of yourself as fully alive.

You might connect well with me if you value humor, authenticity, kindness, honesty, and love. Our therapeutic work together will take a systems approach, meaning we will tend to investigate the brilliant ways that your mindbody has learned to adapt to society, family structures, and social norms rather than pathologizing your human reactions to challenging environments. As a therapist, I genuinely love the unique experiences, perspectives, and identities you hold dear and I believe wholeheartedly that all parts of you are valuable and worthy of care, respect, and dignity.

I work with individuals & families who yearn for deeper, more satisfying connections to themselves, each other and the earth. Self-love is an unlearning process, and by bearing witness to your gifts, spirit, and love, as well as whatever may be clouding these forces, I hope to help you come home to yourself and from a place of alignment, begin orienting your life towards what nourishes it. Capitalism leaves us with few tools beyond the punishment and blame when it comes to self-improvement. I hope to replenish your toolkit with the grace, curiosity, and connection that will actually facilitate the growth and wellbeing of your spirit

Life transitions often lead us to feel overwhelmed. While people close to us may be supportive, we may not always feel able to share with them our doubts and discomfort. Whether we’re holding our own or a loved one's sexuality or gender identity; navigating changes in our primary relationships, or reflecting on adverse experiences, having a safe space to reflect and process is invaluable. My practice serves adult clients who have struggled with anxiety, live with trauma or grief, or who experience the world as members or allies of the LGBTQ+ community. My approach is conversational, strengths-based, and results-oriented.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in West Stockbridge?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
