I specialize in using Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) to reduce the intensity of my client’s symptoms of anxiety.
Accepting new clients. My passion is to help teens and adults who feel they are struggling discover why they are struggling and create a game plan for success. I take the role of a coach and cheerleader because I believe in providing a safe and unbiased space filled with encouragement and support to help guide and promote healing. I enjoy collaborating with my clients to help them define their goals for treatment and what their future could look like. My goal is to create a space that allows us to work together to overcome the challenges they are experiencing in the different areas of their life.

As an integrative therapist, I blend various therapeutic techniques tailored to each client's needs. Together, we explore the underlying issues and symptoms of the mind, body, and spirit presented and navigate them into new growth and a healthy lifestyle. The techniques and momentum in our work together are designed to explore, understand, and resolve these painful experiences and memories. I firmly believe we can heal our wounds, bring life into balance, and create a peaceful state of being.

My areas of focus include autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, sexuality and gender affirming care, substance use, among others.
I intend to provide a nonjudgmental space for my clients to explore their strengths and how to use them to overcome obstacles. Together, we will work toward realizing their full potential and developing an appreciation for life. I approach this process by meeting clients where they are and gently guiding their journey by calling attention to the connections between beliefs, emotions, and behaviors.

I have two assumptions about you that I want to share. First, you are human. Second, being human means you need to feel understood, accepted, supported, and secure. I have worked with couples for over twenty years and have learned a lot about what gets in the way of connection and how to find it again. Along with couples, I also regularly see individual clients.

Clients wanting to optimize their potential and willing to explore effective solutions from Western and Eastern wisdom traditions are my specialty. During my forty plus years working in psychiatric hospitals, leading residential treatment programs, teaching relationship courses for couples and presenting Mind, Body and Spirit healing seminars, helping others heal the core of their issue is my passion. I work with adolescents, adults, families and couples from every orientation. Of course, the LBGT community is welcome. Respectful of every religious orientation, I love working with anyone wanting to unite their physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual aspects of their being.

Have you seen traditional talk therapists and felt like something was missing? I certainly have. Sometimes words are hard, and they don't always do well capturing our internal experience. Music gives us more options in the therapy space, which many people find empowering and validating. If you are ready to do the work and make changes for your well-being, then I think we can work beautifully together!

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
