I don't believe any person deserves to live with overhanging depression, anxiety, ptsd or whatever it may be.
Engaging in counseling can be a scary first step. You may wonder if your symptoms are just in your head and if you really just need to "tough it out". I applaud the courage it takes to look for a counselor and entrust someone with the scariest or most difficult parts of your life. I am honored to be that person for my clients.

Life can be so hard sometimes, right? It can be overwhelming, exhausting, full of anxiety and heartache... If you are in a hard place, I am here to support you. I work with my clients to help them understand the underlying thoughts and beliefs that are contributing to the difficulty of life. I explore the experiences my clients had that are influencing how they see themselves and their world today. Clients can take a new look at these beliefs and thoughts and assess whether they still fit. With couples, I focus on increasing the connection, so each partner feels seen, heard, and secure in the relationship.

An awakening need for therapy may stem from feeling anxious, perfectionistic or a profound sense of loss, sadness and anger.
Trauma is something most people experience in life. However, for some people, these experiences can be soul shattering. Some events can cause us to lose all sense of ourselves as we collapse into fragmented pieces of who we once were and disconnected from who we are meant to be. I believe we all have value and purpose in this life and beyond. By utilizing a combination of talk therapy, EMDR and creative outlets, I will walk beside you as you uncover all the broken bits and pieces to rebuild the beautiful mosaic of your life after trauma

Brené Brown says that “sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up.” My clients are those who want to show up for themselves. They are often deeply-feeling, highly-sensitive people who have struggled to integrate all parts of themselves, but who are ready to experience the confidence that comes from owning painful chapters of their stories. My clients have often survived trauma and want to meet their past in a way that opens up freedom for their future. In other words, my clients are brave change-makers who haven’t yet fully realized that their sensitivity is perhaps their greatest superpower.

Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, a challenging relationship, loss of a sense of self, parenting struggles, that affect your daily life, relationships, ability to function, work, career? Do you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, frustrated, just getting through the day, answering emails, texts or calls, the thought that there’s no light at the end of the tunnel? Do you question, wonder, hope that life could be better? Now more than ever, people are anxious, overwhelmed, uncertain about overcoming a difficult relationship, working through a loss, finding their place in life.

With over a decade of training and experience, I specialize in supporting infants, children, teens and adults who have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety and life stress.
Update: Not accepting new clients - I believe that people make sense in the context of their story and that the key to healing is within each one of us. My approach to therapy has evolved over the years as I began understanding that what most people are looking for is someone who can help them with a deeper understanding of how they became exactly who they are today.

My therapy work is rooted in a systemic approach with children, adolescents, couples, and families experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, parenting challenges, grief, etc... . Through my own identities and experiences as a 1.5 generation immigrant from the Philippines, being raised in Los Angeles, and as an educator for over 20 years, I understand the impact of harm and losses that carry from generation to generation caused by systems that are not made for us. They surface in our lives and within our relationships.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
