People often come to me seeking therapy because they are ready for change. Some people know exactly what they want to change in their lives while others are still exploring. Either way, it’s often very intimidating to begin therapy, even if you’ve done it before. Changing anything about one’s life can be an intimidating process. It’s very important to find a therapist that you trust. I primarily work with clients dealing with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, body image concerns, and/or transitioning to a new phase of life.

Something happens...or someone says something...and before you know it you're reacting. And it's big. In the heat of the moment, you're sure you are right - and maybe you really are-but it pushes others away. They tell you things like "you're making a big deal out of nothing" or "just chill". And that just makes things worse. Later, when the moment has passed, you can have regrets...or even shame. And then the self-hatred sets in. You've got to change. You've probably done therapy before, and it just didn't help.

Are you feeling that things are bleak and hopeless? Are you struggling with the reminders of difficult experiences in your past? Or maybe you are living with a chronic illness that has lowered your quality of life. We all feel the pull not only to survive but to thrive in our lives. Depression, anxiety, trauma, illness, and pain can limit our ability to reach our goals or even make it difficult to get through the day. These limitations are not a personal failing. Sometimes it takes a trained specialist to help us overcome or manage these personal challenges.

Is it hard for you to slow down and relax? Do you constantly feel pressured to try harder or be perfect? Does your brain constantly replay the most difficult moments of your life? The endless pressure to find our "purpose" and be "good enough" can lead to feelings of worry/ anxiety, anger, sadness, avoidance and isolation. These feelings can be overwhelming and leave us feeling disconnected from the people and activities that matter to us the most. My goal is to support you slowing down, reconnecting with what's important and finding moments of relief.

As an Asian-American, I am passionate about the intersections of mental health, faith, and race. Your cultural upbringing, ethnically or religiously has shaped you, both in life-giving and painful ways. I see you sitting in that tension. I see the exhaustion from fighting negative voices that pervade your thoughts. I see the effort you’ve made to keep going despite constantly "feeling behind" and stuck. You desire to not only know the truth in your head, but to feel it in your gut as well. You want to see movement towards what you truly care about and to take up more space: to know that your voice matters.

Have you ever felt alone or stuck? Like no one understands or care about your problems? I thought for a while about the name "USHER Counseling" and what I wanted it to convey to people interested in counseling. Usher is both a stand alone name but also an acronym. We all have metaphorical bags we carry. Someour back packs dufflebags and others are huge heavy suitcases without wheels. The approach I want in counseling is to develop a welcoming safe place where you can "Unpack" the suitcase or duffle bag, whatever the case, "Share", "Heal", "Empower" and "Repair”

Welcome! My life experience has given me a great deal of empathy for those who struggle - I know that sometimes it’s hard just to make it through the day. If you are working through difficult challenges and life questions, therapy can offer a safe space to find a new way forward. We can work together toward greater confidence, clarity and freedom. I am ready to support you in areas that might need some healing. I firmly believe that diving into deep issues doesn’t need to feel heavy all of the time. If you might welcome a little bit of humor, sarcasm or healthy cynicism from your therapist, I think we could be a great fit!

I have worked with children, adolescents, adults and families. The decision to enter counseling is often a difficult one, but the rewards from a positive and productive experience are life changing. My goal is to create a safe, trusting, and supportive environment in which an individual can examine and clarify the issues that concern them, seek solutions, and create positive change and growth in their lives and relationships.

Hello and welcome! Life often throws us into a whirlwind of societal expectations, dictating how we should live, who we should be friends with, and what our lives should conform to. This constant pressure can leave us feeling overwhelmed and detached from who we actually want to be. Within my practice, I provide a secure space where we can confront and challenge these societal expectations, empowering you to lead life on your own terms.

I am currently accepting new clients, however I am prioritizing limited availability to specific clients. While gender and gender identities are constant themes in the transgender community, I am currently prioritizing working with transgender clients who have been actively transitioning for a number of years, and are engaged and connected with the transgender community. I am looking to work with first generation American transgender clients, indigenous and/or transgender people of color, and transgender teens.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Lynnwood?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
