You need to feel like you can be fully yourself. To be able to set boundaries, thrive, and be healthy in your relationships. Therapy is for someone like you - a regular person, struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder... who sometimes doesn’t like how you feel about yourself or your relationships. Given the social pressures and systemic influences in your life, these feelings become more complex and painful with time. You don’t need someone to solve everything, fix you, or expect you to be happy, but you long to be authentic and vulnerable with yourself and for others to feel they can be the same with you.

I'm trained in both Brainspotting & EMDR, which are helpful for anxiety, PTSD, & trauma.
Feeling overwhelmed? Struggling with transition, trauma, or loss? Longing for a life that fits with who you truly are inside? Depression, grief, relationship issues, trauma, & anxiety can leave you exhausted, stuck in painful old patterns. But they can also be opportunities for growth. Therapy is a process of "tending the soul," as well as addressing life's problems. I especially like working with women in midlife. To learn more about finding balance in middle age, check out the "Recent Articles" section on my website: www.soulcarepsychotherapy.com/

I have formalized training and experience in treating a variety of mental health conditions but have specialized in the following: anxiety, depression, mania, psychosis, stress, and trauma.
Individual therapy with me always begins by learning how to check-in with our nervous system to ensure we are creating a neutral and/or safe space that's required to begin to take a deeper look at what's underneath some of the challenging situations you may be responding to. Therapy is an insight-oriented process where we'll improve our ability to self-regulate and connect with others. I work from a polyvagal informed approach which is also known as the science of safety and connection. It's through this approach that we will begin to understand how your nervous system responds to cues of safety and danger.

I help people who feel stuck, anxious, who are facing life changes (big or small), or the loss of something or someone they loved, get to know themselves better and discover the answers deep inside of them.
You feel like you’re settling for a life that’s not really yours. There is a stuck feeling that you carry with you, forcing you to wonder if this is just how things are always going to be. You look at your life and think you should be happy, satisfied, and dealing with whatever comes your way with more ease and gratitude but instead you feel lost. Even if you don’t know exactly what is wrong, you know something needs to change. Whether you’re going through a major transition, have lost someone or something in your life, or are realizing that your circumstances need to shift, you want to move forward. You're ready to get unstuck.

Perhaps you are new to therapy but feel motivated or inspired to heal and work through emotions, conflicts or blockages to living a more fulfilling life. Have you had other therapies but feel “it’s time” to go deeper and explore root causes of patterns and issues? Do you feel you are in an “awakening“ and hope to work with a Transpersonal Therapist to support the integration of your higher or Whole/Core Self?

In trainings by well known and respected mindfulness and somatic (body) trauma experts, I've learned how to gently and compassionately guide clients to settle the nervous system and allow for reprocessing the anxious or traumatic response.
With twenty years in private practice, I’ve honed my ability to attune to a person’s unique lens and her lived experience. My passion is women's wellness: I holistically support women in all phases of life to thrive. My special focus is on those faced with infertility, pregnancy loss and birth trauma. Having lived through and healed from those challenges, my connection to women and mothering is intuitive. Drawing upon mindfulness and somatic (body-focused) training, I offer wellness skills for building trauma resilience, practicing mindful self-compassion, and managing the cumulative stress of womanhood and motherhood.

Sometimes it can feel alarming to realize our anxiety, depression or trauma is not just in our heads, but in our bodies as well. We might try to change the way we are thinking, but we still don't feel at home in our own skin. We can start to feel afraid that nothing will ever change. As a somatic (body-centered) psychotherapist trained in trauma across the lifespan, it is my honor to support clients in discovering that much more is possible than at first imagined. I enjoy helping clients identify what is right and natural about themselves, and to heal through their own fully-trustworthy inner wisdom.

I believe that each person strives to feel contentment and become the best version of themselves. This can mean something different to each person, which is why I enjoy the diversity that each individual brings to therapy. It is exciting to watch the growth that individuals experience with some guidance and support. I specialize working with mood disorders & trauma. Trauma is any experience that has overwhelmed your ability to cope and has impacted how you now perceive yourself and the world around you. We can work together to heal and grow past previous experiences so that you can be the best version of yourself

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
