Welcome, I’m glad you’re here. Wherever you find yourself, therapy holds a compassionate space where you no longer have to bear it all alone. Together, we can slow down and give attention to the feelings and experiences that are often pushed aside to meet the demands of daily life. You might be navigating a difficult situation, grappling with anxiety and stress, adjusting to a life transition, grieving a painful loss, working through faith-based or spiritual concerns, or coping with a chronic illness. Life can be incredibly hard, and my desire is to offer kindness, hope, and support in the midst of it.

My background includes working with clients struggling with: bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress, acute trauma response, DV/abuse/sexual assault history, coping with chronic/terminal illness, caregiver stress/fatigue, relationship difficulties, codependence, grief & loss, and substance abuse/addiction issues.
Are you feeling overwhelmed and stuck, unsure how to make life more fulfilling? When stress becomes too much a part of our daily lives it helps to have a space and time in which we can talk through it all with someone who can help us find a new perspective. Counseling is an investment in yourself and your well-being. It can be just what is needed to calm the chaos and find energy and motivation that helps you to move from just getting by to living a full, engaging life.

My counseling clinic name is Pain Alternatives because my early practice was primarily in structural medicine. I became interested in mental wellness after years of seeing the inextricable connectedness of mental and physical pain. In my current practice, I use a time-limited dynamic psychotherapy model, and medication prescription and management wherever clinically appropriate. You can come for medication management alone, for counseling alone, or for a combination of medication prescription and management with counseling sessions.

I am Currently FULL 2/22/2024 -. One of the most important parts of therapy is forming a trusting and compassionate therapeutic relationship. From that, my approach is person-centered. Focusing on an understanding of your feelings, beliefs, thoughts, behaviors, experiences and goals. Providing a safe space for you to explore, process, grow, challenge yourself and make the changes you want. I will walk along side you, providing support, skill building and at times asking the challenging questions that often are left unsaid, make us uncomfortable, and that in the end, help us most to grow into who we want to be.

My approach to counseling uses a person-centered perspective with a focus on hope, strength, and empowerment. I also use an integrative approach of mindfulness, relaxation, art, acceptance and commitment therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy when working with people. I believe that all people have the capacity to grow and move forward. They just need some additional support and a person to walk with them. And that is where I come in.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
