With a background working in schools as well as community mental health, I have experience working with children/adolescents, adults and families, helping to manage: depression, anxiety, mild to severe behavior and mental disabilities, grief and loss, LGBTQ issues, relationships, trauma, career and academic exploration and crisis stabilization.
Therapy and the process of change can be daunting but, YOU ARE WORTH IT! My focus and goal in my work with you is to help navigate through your personal process of growth and change. I use a strength based, client centered and cognitive/behavioral approach to help develop techniques and coping skills to get you to where you want to be to feel solace and peace in your life. The most important step in the process is establishing a client/therapist relationship based on mutual respect and integrity.

As we venture through life, sometimes we find that the expectations we set for ourselves, our partners, and the future are constantly changing. My hope is to ease you through life’s transitions while enriching the relationships you have. I believe therapy should be a safe, non-judgmental, and nurturing place to put down the weights and ease into meaningful conversations. I enjoy working together with clients to identify their strengths, explore ways to reconnect with themselves and others to move forward in ways that feel genuine.

I work with adults and families facing situations and traumas resulting in depression and anxiety.
I am a LICSW with a focus on psychotherapy with adults, children and families. I have been a practitioner for 48 years, in private practice for 12 1/2 years and had been a psychotherapist for 26 years in the Behavioral Health Department at Group Health. While there, in addition to a general caseload that included Medicare patients, I ran a Children's Therapy Group, served on a county-wide child abuse oversight committee, co-chaired an inter-disciplinary case consultation team, and managed an intern program.

Hello, I am Anna. As a mom, mental health professional, and disabled individual, I know how difficult the world and life can be and how hard it can be to ask for help. I see counseling as coming beside a person and assisting them to best help themselves. Counseling should be a partnership where the person is open, determined and willing to work and the clinician, in collaboration with them, directs the ship and supports them with the tools they need. Are you having a tough time with anxiety? Has your past held you back from your goals? Do feel lost trying to fill your life with "stuff" that never seems to help? Change is possible.

I specialize in ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and academic, career and LGBTQIA+ related issues.
As kids, we were told that if we did everything right, we would have a life to be proud of. As adults, many of us are wondering if it all was just a fairy tale. We got the job, but now life is just wash-rinse-repeat; we’re bored. A change in job could help, but what if I told you that we as adults sometimes forget to invest in ourselves, outside of our career…and thus, we forget who we were before we got the degree; before we got the job. We forget we were once multidimensional creatures with other amazing facets than our job title. I want to help you get back to that version of yourself. Let’s help you find the magic in life again.

Do you often feel like it is difficult to connect with yourself, or that others don’t understand you? Are you a parent who is worried about your child’s difficulty in forming new connections or their sense of belonging? It can be difficult to find someone who understands what it can be like to fit into a world that doesn’t understand you. As an autistic therapist, I help individuals and families navigate the complexities in a world that sometimes sees uniqueness as something that needs to be changed, rather than something that should be celebrated, and used as a strength in working towards your goal of living a more fulfilling life.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
