Therapy can help during different stages of your process to find peace, clarity, and a contented life. Living in chronic fight or flight mode can cause emotional dysregulation and a feeling of losing control or direction in life, as well as being correlated with inflammatory and preventable illness. We will work together to gain an understanding of what issues are impacting everyday life, limiting potential for healthy relationships or a satisfying job, and causing changes in your thoughts and feelings. Choosing to come to therapy to find your empowered self is an act of courage.

I enjoy helping women in the tech process thoughts and feelings using feminist theory. I help people with difficult family dynamics understand how those dynamics may impact their parenting. I help women affected by domestic violence, people considering abortions, people with complex trauma and people needing help navigating complex family relationships. Counseling can be helpful as families may find themselves in need of support, resources and a safe place to share thoughts and feelings related to parenthood. Having previously worked as a child and family counselor I am able to offer unique insights into parenting.

Hello, I am a queer-identified therapist specialized in LGBTQIA+ mental health. My approach to therapy involves developing a safe and collaborative relationship in which a client can explore various aspects of their life while feeling supported as well as challenged to grow. My theoretical approach is rooted in existentialism, where I work with clients to find and create meaning. I often draw from other therapeutic modalities based on the needs of each individual client.

Hello and welcome! I’m a counseling and health psychologist who works with adults and couples. Although change can be hard, it can help to have assistance in navigating the balance between acceptance and change. My first aim is to understand you as a whole person, including mind/body connection, questions of meaning/purpose, and your specific goals. We will then collaborate on improving your quality of life. Although a generalist, I have developed a specialty in working with individuals who have chronic pain and/or chronic illnesses/disabilities. In addition, I often work with trauma, grief/loss, and stress and anxiety management.

Let’s be real, having a body is complicated. Given the context of the world we live in, it makes sense to feel a wide range of emotions about your body, food, movement, and the list goes on. Eating disorders, disordered eating, body image concerns, and low self-worth can so often feel like they come part and parcel with our society and the traumas so many of us endure throughout our lives. Thank goodness you don’t have to figure it all out alone! I believe that healing comes through gentle curiosity about ourselves and answering the question of “Why am I like this?” with nonjudgmental compassion.

Whatever you are going through, you don't have to go through it alone. In therapy, we work together to transform your distress into something meaningful: an opportunity for healing and growth. My non-judgmental guidance is focused on your particular strengths and needs. It is possible to get unstuck from longstanding patterns when you are ready for change. In this phase of your life, you might want to better manage emotional stress, shift your thinking, or nurture healthier relationships. I hope treatment provides my clients with new pathways to living with courage, connection, and creativity during challenging times.

We reach out for help when something in our life gets our attention. It could be distressing feelings and thoughts, paralyzing indecision, stress, relationship challenges, trauma, illness, just to name a few. We can feel vulnerable, lost, alone. Oftentimes, the original issue which first got our attention takes us on an unexpected journey. We are given the opportunity to deepen into our relationship with ourselves and the divine in ways that heal and change us beyond anything we imagined. This reverberates into every aspect of our life bringing happiness, renewed vitality, a sense of belonging and feeling engaged in life, contentment and peace.

Activism is a huge part of what I bring in my therapy work with clients. In trauma and healing work, I bring my direct experiences of anti-oppression, feminist, and social justice frameworks to clients. I understand that I am not excused from doing work to dismantle systems of oppression, due to the privileges from my intersectional identities as a college-educated, cisgendered, Filipina woman of color. Trauma and healing work require an alignment and connection to one’s body, mind, spiritual values and practices, and I see this as an extension of my involvement in activism, anti-oppression, and social justice work.

Who would you be if you were truly free to embrace your authentic self? In a world that often challenges us to conform, it's common to internalize beliefs that we are somehow inadequate as we are. This internal struggle can manifest as feelings of shame, resentment, hopelessness, and loneliness. As a therapist deeply committed to the principles of anti-oppression, social activism, and dismantling systemic barriers, my mission is to guide individuals on a transformative journey toward reconnecting with their genuine selves.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Seattle?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
