“ I feel much better after talking to my counselor.” “ I realize that there is a way out after counseling.” “ I have better self-awareness and have learned how to make decisions for myself through counseling.” This is some of the feedback I have received from my clients after counseling sessions. Counseling, also known as psychotherapy, is essentially based on the core idea of that talking with a counselor about the things that are bothering you. It helps you to clarify your concerns and put them into perspective. I have been working in counseling for over 10 years in Hong Kong, St.Louis, MO, and Seattle, WA.

Are you struggling with life transitions, job stress, health issues, or relationship challenges? I am committed to helping you learn strategies that will help you change "the story" around whatever is keeping you stuck in your negative mindset. It is much easier to explore creative solutions in a safe, non-judgmental place where you can move from uncertainty, ambivalence, or self-doubt. It is then possible to make the necessary changes with clarity, self-acceptance, and the courage to take action steps toward achieving your goals.

I believe that healing begins with being heard. The therapeutic relationship allows me to witness and attune to your experiences with acceptance and positive regard. Together in practice, we can foster internal exploration that leads to supported change. My therapeutic approach is guided by a feminist, person-in-the-environment perspective. Real wellness is grounded by insight into one's personal story, and how the language, habits, and our personal reactions influence our well-being and internal state.

As a therapist, I utilize a practical approach to assist clients in getting more of what they want and less of what they don't. I believe that successful therapy includes identifying the What, understanding the Why and developing the How to move forward. My clients want more from themselves, their relationships and their careers. I offer a guiding hand to help them map out their goals and explore the origins of their current behavior. Clients can expect to play an active role in transitioning their lives through goal setting, skill building and out of session activities.

I specialize in helping men who struggle with isolation, feelings of anxiety and depression, blocks to intimacy, addiction to pornography, lack of male friends, a feeling of being lost or without a deep sense of purpose, or feeling numb and disconnected from life. As men, we are socialized to keep everything to ourselves, which makes it hard for us to admit when we're lonely and hurting and in need of support. Many of us grew up with fathers that were either absent, abusive, or detached from us emotionally, leaving us without a respectable model of masculinity and without much inspiration or direction in our lives.

**NEW CLIENTS - Please email me** No one deserves to live in pain. For therapy to work, you need three things: curiosity about yourself and your interactions with others, an authentic connection with your therapist, and concrete, practical tools and skills to promote real and lasting change. My job is to facilitate an understanding of what is causing you pain and getting in your way of creating your best life. As your therapist, I don’t “just listen.” I use an integrative approach, combining several modalities to create the most effective treatment for each client. I practice remote therapy with individual adults.

As a bilingual and bicultural Spanish speaking therapist I have a passion to work with Latinx community. I believe it is very important to understand a client's background, and belief system from a cultural and social perspective. I have experience supporting people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, life transitions and parenting challenges. I work with adults, children and their parents/caregivers. People need a space where they can feel listened and safe to tell stories of pain and trauma. But also, a place where someone believes in them and can be an ally in their path to find their authentic self.

I have enormous respect for the power each individual has in creating positive change in their life and work hard with individuals and couples to accomplish this. Positive change often means learning new skills and strategies that will help you live more successfully and develop more enriching and meaningful relationships. Positive change also means doing something different rather than doing the same thing over and over again hoping you will get better results. Positive change takes place in the present as we face our fears, take responsibility for our thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and move towards what we value.

Are you finding yourself stuck? Hopeless? Is your relationship struggling with communication, intimacy and connection? You are not alone. You have taken a courageous step in reaching out. My approach to therapy is collaborative, systemic and strengths based. I am interested in the meaning made from your stories and life experiences. I find it is often in these stories, told to us and by us, that we find meaning and purpose. Unfortunately, not all these stories are desirable.

Are you in a relationship and still feel alone? Do you find yourself feeling angry all the time? Have you started to lose hope in your relationship? It doesn't have to be that way. Most couples learn that it isn't their partner they are tired of, rather the problem is the negative cycle that takes over every time they try to talk or connect. Individually, we can focus on easing anxiety and depression, boosting your self-esteem and setting boundaries where necessary.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Bellevue?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
