My ideal client is someone that is trying to figure out how to thrive in their life. Building deeper understanding of how their past is connected to their current and future self. My client wants to feel better, have deeper connections and find their own happiness. Often my client sees the good in others and will bend over backward for their family, friends and coworkers, but finds, it’s hard to treat themselves as well as everyone else. My client might also be a family member of a service member, or a service member or veteran themselves, trying to wrestle with the intricacies of military culture, deployments, high ops tempo…

As a counselor, I believe that the most important aspect of my work is meeting clients where they are and building a therapeutic relationship. I have found that many clients seek help with anxiety, ADHD, life transitions, trauma, and depression, and I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to explore these issues. By using a flexible and integrative approach, I help clients to develop a deeper understanding and compassion for themselves and provide them with support as they overcome their challenges, whether healing past experiences, coping with the present, or moving towards their future potential.

“I need to change, but I don’t know how.” If you can relate to this phrase, you aren’t alone. There are so many reasons we stay stuck: Anxiety, fear, trauma, substance use, unsupported ADHD, and unsupportive relationships, and so much more. There is nothing wrong, defective, or broken about you. You’re doing your best with the strategies you’ve learned, and you deserve the opportunity to explore even more in the safety of an understanding and supportive relationship. By better understanding the "why", we begin to learn the right "how" when it comes to growing and thriving in life and relationships.

You fear disappointing others, and you feel deeply disappointed in yourself. You desire the confidence to trust your intuition and decisions and to wake up each morning with a sense of purpose and value. You desire to make a significant impact on others and to have deep, enriching relationships.

I specialize in depression, anxiety, transitions & relationship issues.
Are you feeling stuck where you are currently? Often, how we present to the world is driven by how we learned to survive in it. At our core, we seek to feel seen, heard, loved, and valued. However, our own beliefs that we are unworthy or undeserving of these basic desires lead us to feel anxious or depressed, lonely, disconnected, misunderstood or overwhelmed. Such beliefs about ourselves are built on years of messaging that tell us who we "should" be and bring us further away from who we are at our core. By exploring these beliefs, we can work together to heal and to bring you closer to your truest, most authentic self.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
