There is a gap between the way you wish life would be and the reality of life. Anxiety and Depression are just overwhelming and it makes it hard to connect to loved ones, get daily tasks done, and think clearly. You notice yourself feeling so disconnected. And you are finding it hard to have the drive to get things done. Where is the joy in life? You remember enjoying things but now everyday is just gray. You want to be able to feel like the Real You again! Not hidden by anxiety and depression.

I have experience in helping those facing relationship distress, grief, depression, anxiety, abuse, trauma, and life transitions.
I believe that we are all made for relationship with one another. Relationships are where we learn about love, comfort, hope, courage, joy, and empathy. They are also where we unfortunately learn about betrayal, fear, rejection, abandonment, abuse, and pain. These experiences and connections with others shape us into who we are. They are also the place where real change and healing can happen. I hope to come alongside you as an empathetic and trustworthy listener to help you make sense of unhealthy patterns that have kept you stuck and to provide real hope, growth, and change in the context of healthy relationship.

I work with individuals dealing with OCD, anxiety, depression, sexual addiction, anger management.
Do you want a fresh outlook? Are you looking for a new perspective? Do you want change that offers realistic hope? I have been privileged over the past 20 plus years of helping people address change. We all want to avoid addressing personal change. In many ways it is like musical chairs: We cling as long as possible to the perceived "safe" place that we already know, refusing to loosen our grip until we feel sure another safe place awaits. Together we will work to establish attainable goals that are best suited for your life.

My passion is in working with teens and young adults who have had to navigate parental divorce, loss, family conflicts, struggles with anxiety and depression, and healing from abusive relationships. The relationships we have throughout life can cause pain, but relationships also have the power to bring healing to those areas of our hearts and minds that have been damaged. This is why a therapeutic relationship is so impactful and why my approach to therapy is relational and collaborative.

Outwardly you look like you have it all together; but on the inside, you are riddled with self-doubt, fear or overwhelming sadness. This companion of stress, anxiety and depression has been affecting many parts of your life. You wonder, "Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?" Nothing you have done to calm your mind is working and you’re barely holding it together. You can’t continue the way you are now. You want to find a way out of the darkness that steals your joy and interferes with your ability to be the best version of yourself.

I entered the profession of counseling because I believe, despite the worst circumstances experienced in life, people can find hope. Maybe you have found yourself or your child struggling through a difficult experience such as a loss or a trauma and you need someone to come alongside as you learn to live again. Perhaps you are struggling with anxiety, hopelessness, or shame and are not able to manage this on your own. Maybe you struggle with an eating disorder or an addiction of some sort and have been unable to overcome this by yourself. I am here to help.

Every parent dreams of raising their children in ways that enable them to not only survive, but to thrive. As life unfolds, parents may encounter personal difficulties, or problems related to their children, that compromise their ability to provide consistent, responsive care. They may then be susceptible to feelings of overwhelm and discouragement. I offer families a compassionate, collaborative, strength-based therapeutic approach. I respectfully join with them in the belief that "We are in this together, and together, we will find our way through."

Life can be painful at times, but the journey is not meant to be walked alone. It is my honor and privilege to walk with people through the valleys and make the burdens feel a little lighter. My hope is to encourage, equip, and advocate for my clients. I believe that most problems people face are the result of learned patterns of relating that stem back to childhood. Part of the therapeutic process is visiting certain parts of childhood, in order to explore these patterns and process experiences. In working with children and teens, my hope is to process distressing emotions and experiences before they become life-long problems.

I embrace the theory that people are not defined by their problems, but their problems are external of them. Through this strength-based approach, I believe a person can be empowered to take control of their life. By exploring one's psychology, culture, system, and spirituality I believe one will find the strength within themselves to change.

I work best with clients who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety and/or depression and folks who are struggling with life transitions including: marriage/divorce, having a new child, transitions into adulthood, past or current trauma and career changes.
Change is hard. Many things in our lives make change easier or harder to get through. It's natural for change to make us struggle. During those times reaching out for support can help get you to where you want to go. Most people know what they want for their life and need some assistance recognizing the strength inside themselves.

And, whether it is anxiety, depression, anger, or fatigue (or any other number of symptoms), we can learn the meaning behind those as well.
I enjoy my work as a psychotherapist even more today then I did when I started over 20 years ago. There is so much power and insight that comes from a truly authentic relationship between therapist and client. You, the client, can then take what is learned in the safety of the therapeutic relationship out into the world full of Other relationships and feel equipped to navigate them in a way that is aligned with who you are. Whether it's your self as a mother, daughter, brother, or son, there is meaning to unfold in everything you do.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
