I specialize in anxiety, stress management, life transitions, identity exploration, pregnancy, parenting, depression, grief, loss, trauma, infertility and third party reproduction, and chronic illness. I work with individuals/families experiencing depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship conflicts, parenting challenges, trauma, grief, and adverse effects of childhood.
Many of us feel unprepared to deal with the stressors, transitions and difficulties that occur throughout our lives. I have many years of experience helping people traverse these issues and develop the tools to cope and to thrive in the face of these challenges. I will work with you to examine the underlying issues that have led you to therapy and support your efforts to make meaningful changes in your life. I offer a warm, safe and non-judgmental environment in which you can explore your thoughts and feelings, while helping you push toward a deeper understanding of the patterns driving your behaviors, choices and relationships.

You want to appear confident and like you have it all together, but deep down, you struggle to get it all done and stay connected to the present moment. You may be fed up with the constant battle of proving yourself, feeling anxious you are missing something, or preoccupied with pleasing others. You might not even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to feel connected and enjoy the NOW. You’re ready to smile and laugh again. Most of all, you’re ready to take charge of your life and no longer be controlled by anxiety and grief.

My work is especially helpful for people functioning at a high level experiencing anxiety, depression, self-doubt, lack of motivation, and trouble with intimacy.
Therapy is for all of us, but what it means and how it works is unique to each of us. While we share much in common, we all carry experiences, beliefs, dreams, and fears that are ours alone. They give us our distinct perspectives. They shape our present and future, often in surprising ways. I tailor my therapeutic approach to suit what makes you uniquely you. I like to explore how our pasts shape our current experience. I focus on our relationships, as our attachments often are a driving force in how we go about our daily lives.

I use a blend of somatic (body-centered) treatment and evidence based practices like cognitive behavior therapy to help support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, limiting thoughts, stuck behavioral patterns, and trauma.
Contrary to what movies show you about therapy, I won’t give you unwanted advice or simply nod solemnly the whole session. I bring curiosity, compassion, humor, free expression, and movement to join with my clients and help them explore what healing means to them. I hope to empower clients to access their natural abilities and to gently disrupt the unhealthy patterns we humans often get stuck in using more than traditional “talk therapy” approach. My goal is to facilitate somatic healing, so your whole body begins to feel better as you gain new awareness and get “unstuck” from the patterns you’re ready to release.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
