Are you a parent of an LGBTQ+ child struggling to understand your child? Are you stuck in indecision? Confused and worried about how your friends will take it? I can help.
Nearly 2 years ago, my eldest child shared that she is transgender. I initially had no idea what to do. I was scared, and confused, even ashamed and guilty. I am a pediatrician who has worked with suicidal youth and understand the consequences of parental rejection, but I still struggled with my child's gender. Today, I know better. My child comes first and so does yours. I help parents love, accept, understand, and support their LGBTQ+ children so they can thrive and live out loud without judgment or limitations. Are you struggling like I did? I know what you're going through I can help, let's talk.

Perhaps you are in a difficult spot in your life and feeling controlled by your emotions such as shame, depression, anxiety, inability to focus or anger.
My approach is unique in that I offer both Counseling and Biofeedback services. Much of my work with clients revolves around the truth that we are all born perfect and worthy of love. For some of us, traumatic experiences may have taught us that closing off our heart is safer or creating defenses protects us from being hurt again. We may hold core beliefs about ourselves and the world such as: “I am worthless and unworthy of love”, “the world is not safe”, “people I love and care about will leave me”…and so on. I will guide you as you break free from the past, feel safe and calm, and begin to live fully in the present.

You might have tried talk therapy or EMDR and found those to be helpful yet are still struggling with the same symptoms you had come to therapy for. I can help you with that. Through integrating all of your "parts," you can come to experience more ease and a sense of internal coherence that in turn supports you in making some of the changes that you're longing for in your life. I work with adult individuals and couples using "parts work" and other trauma focused modalities to address issues such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, people pleasing, shame, dissociation, difficulties with communication and creative blocks.

In a session with me as your counselor, what you see is what you get. I model authenticity by being present with my clients. You’ll find me to be compassionate, empathetic, perseverant, and even silly at times. I’m a strong believer in the power of talk therapy to ‘get the poison out’ – poison in the form of fear, anxiety, depression, worry, and feeling stuck. I will help you improve your self-esteem, enhance your communication skills, and manage your emotions more effectively. I am also a couples therapist and I am currently finishing my AASECT certification as a Sex Therapist.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
