I've got robust knowledge on how to treat anxiety and depression.
I'm a bit of a jack of all trades when it comes to therapy, and I haven't found a client that I couldn't work with yet! I can work with a client who knows exactly what they want out of therapy, and I can also work with clients who aren't sure of how to move forward. I make sure that I will only work as hard as you do, so I love working with people who want to be pushed to make progress. For me, as long a client wants to come to therapy, I will do what I can to help you.

I'm a fairly relaxed therapist who can both create an emotionally comfortable atmosphere and talk about really difficult things. These type of issues may include sexuality, gender, relationship challenges, organization or motivation difficulties, or being neurospicy. The prevailing issue with most of these is anxiety, or anxiety-linked depression. This usually needs to be handled, along with an overarching problem or reality that exists. People want to be able to feel better, get along better with their loved ones, be able to succeed, and enjoy life.

Hello! I'm Mark Richardson (He/They), a Licensed Master of Social Work based in Fort Worth, TX. I've dedicated my career to working with "difficult" populations since 2015. Having a rather multifaceted identity, I prioritize acceptance in therapy, drawn from my own experiences of not always feeling seen and understood. Before private practice, I worked in an inpatient setting, primarily with adolescent clients with diagnoses of substance use disorders, mood disorders, and personality disorders. My areas of focus lie in substance use disorders, ADHD, autism, agoraphobia, homelessness, LGBTQIA+ issues, grief and anxiety.

I enjoy working with clients with diverse lived experiences. With neurodivergent clients, I work within the neurodiversity paradigm, recognizing neurodivergence as a component of identity, rather than pathology. Together we may explore gender and sexual identity, relationship dynamics, life transitions, burnout, perfectionism, people-pleasing tendencies, and a variety of mental health patterns . My approach is strengths-based, trauma-informed, and person-centered, meaning that I treat each client as the expert of their own life and emphasize the importance of the therapeutic relationship.

I am passionate about working with clients across the developmental lifespan and with a variety of mental health concerns including Self-Esteem concerns, LGBTQIA+ Issues, Women's issues, relationship concerns, trauma, depression, and anxiety.
There are so many situations where people do not feel heard or understood, which is why it is my first goal in therapy to establish a safe and collaborative environment with all of my clients, regardless of age or concern. I am devoted to meeting my clients where they are in their mental health journey and viewing them with a compassionate, holistic lens in order to better understand their lived experiences. This kind of warm, safe, and non-judgemental relationship is the cornerstone to my approach to therapy.

My other counseling specialties include LGBTQ+ experiences, dissociative disorders, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, substance use, and anxiety.
Do you struggle to remember a time when you were happy and felt okay? Hopelessness and numbness are the only things you feel. Do you feel trapped by your traumatic experiences and your body does not feel like your own? Instead, you seem to be watching your own life pass by, disconnected from it. Do you find yourself worrying that you may never trust yourself or anyone else again? Do you find yourself being afraid to show others the true you and may also fear being too much or too difficult for people to be around. You feel stuck, but you are already building your way out. The fact that you are here is a significant step.

Something seems–off. Your energy is low, or you’re staying in bed just a little bit longer. It’s easier for you to listen to your inner critic than to accept compassion and empathy. You can’t remember the last time you felt relaxed or content with yourself. It’s harder to find the words to express your emotions and experience. You don’t ask for help since you are the one that no one has to worry about, because you take care of everyone else. You are in need of a different kind of support, one that helps you heal and learn to live again. Email me today for more information!

I specialize in working with trans, nonbinary, and neurodivergent clients struggling with depression and anxiety, trauma, family conflict, and BPD.
I believe that each person is the expert on themselves and their experiences, and my role is to be a supportive guide throughout the healing process. I always want our work together to be a collaborative process, so we will structure our time together around your goals. This is your space, and you get to decide how it looks. Some clients are looking to stay near the surface, and work on coping skills and solutions to daily life problems. Others want to explore further into their own past or their inner world.

Every day feels like a rollercoaster of worry, and you’re stuck in a cycle of seeking relief in distractions? You’ve poured everything into helping loved ones, only to hit a frustrating wall? Your mind is a battleground of conflicting thoughts, making decisions and changes seems not worth the fight? Tasks pile up, and the idea of starting to tackle them is overwhelming you? Wearing a mask, even with yourself, becomes a necessity to feel somewhat okay? Strong emotions trigger panic or self-harm, and the pain or numbness feels easier in the dark places? Things you used to love no longer bring joy, and even laughter feels empty?

As a queer individual and therapist, I offer a secure and non-judgmental atmosphere where you explore these fears safely.
There’s a lingering discomfort when you enter a new environment. You feel on edge- wavering between the desire to live authentically yet trying to hide just enough to go unnoticed. The guard you built up for protection from unsolicited looks or critical remarks is getting too heavy. You’re exhausted from the constant worries of facing rejection from those around you. The harmful comments against the LGBTQIA+ community startle you backward towards “the closet”- the tribulation of your sense of self-sacrifice for the comfort of others. Even though you fight hard to regain your autonomy, it’s difficult to claim that pride alone.

My practice centers queer, neurodivergent adults experiencing complex trauma, maladaptive self image, dissociative concerns, spiritual and identity development, and mood disorders. I primarily help people address intersectional trauma related to family and close relationships, religious abuse, and neurodivergent, sexual, and gender identities. Trauma can intersect with other concerns like anxiety, depression, grief, anger, and relationships, and our bodies. Feeling stuck in our own mud, it's easy to lose control or hope. Sex worker friendly.

You deserve an expansive and liberated life. Many of my clients are exploring what it means to be their most authentic self, and how to deal with the barriers that stand in their way. They're looking for a place to be seen and understood, and to be able to let down their guard. I see clients who are navigating identity, sexuality, and belonging; those with trauma histories, anxiety, and depression, looking for relief and a deeper healing that takes them to a place of ease and fulfillment. They may have tried other solutions, but feel stuck and eager for a lasting and meaningful change.

As a queer Black, Indigenous therapist, I specialize in queer-affirmative therapy, sex therapy, racial & sexual identity formation, minority stress, and intergenerational trauma. I collaborate with clients through a social justice-oriented, culturally responsive, and systems-informed framework while rooted in a decolonial-based approach. This typically looks like working with individual adults who may be QTBIPOC, neurodiverse, navigating systemic inequities & oppression, struggling with life transitions, or someone experiencing the heaviness and despair of human suffering that may manifest as grief, loss, depression, and/or anxiety.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
