Don't worry if I am out-of-network with your insurance.
Do you want to grow and self-actualize? My modalities are experiential/insight oriented, so I like to work with people who look into themselves for healthier, fulfilled lives. Do you have depression/anxiety, bipolar? Looking for a career change, have gender identity questions, or want to maximize your potential? Need learning disability advocacy? Then call me today. We bring our past and decisions into every situation. Knowing what those decisions are, and that the past does not define us, is the first step in successful therapy. I use re-decision, Gestalt, NLP, hypnosis, and mindfulness to find answers and peace within.

My approach is to help clients become free of their emotional overreactions (especially recurring upsets) and break free from the grip of their past wounds. I also work to help identify conditioning and beliefs that my clients have inherited from their families which are NOT consistent with their own core nature. It's all about becoming more authentic. I believe that the more true to ourselves we become, without the old wounds, conditioning, and societal pressures (such as needing to be seen as a nice guy/girl or needing approval from others) then the more whole and joyful we become in our everyday lives.

You may be wanting to understand how life choices contribute to your feelings day to day. Imago Relationship Therapy and Gottman Relationship Therapy can often offer new possibilities for your relationship. Ego State understanding of varied responses you may have to the same issue may be improved. Brene Brown's life view information is useful, too.Trauma and other difficult experiences can be improved with EMDR and Trauma Resource Model. Learning various relaxation techniques such as EFT and Heartmath can be helpful. And, new info on the neurobiology of the brain can expand your self understanding.

Couples come to me when they are sick of small disagreements turning into BIG arguments. Many therapists start with the problems… I start with solutions. I’ve created simple tools to help couples communicate based on seeing what successful couples do differently for over 20 years in practice.

I am a Bowen family systems therapist working with clients from the standpoint of your internal and external connections (partner, family, coworkers, and community). Because no one functions entirely alone, relationship problems can produce distressing symptoms that can often be alleviated by addressing the roles, rules, and goals we may be defining quite differently. Communication brings understanding. Faith in ourselves, in safe others, and in a benevolent Source that gives meaning to our experience are vital resources for the growing seasons of life that come to all. Phone me to discuss your situation; I'd like to be of help.

The best therapy is a playful blend of science and relationship. My approach is transparent and direct, getting to the heart of the matter quickly. I use lots of neuroscience to help educate my clients about why and how we should communicate in relationships. My style is unique because I will use lots of humor to encourage us as we navigate each painful spot in your life. The end goal of my treatment is practical as well as compassionate - helping you become more present with others as well as with yourself. I see our work together as the beginning of a transformative process, a collaboration to create meaningful change.

Perhaps you are in a difficult spot in your life and feeling controlled by your emotions such as shame, depression, anxiety, inability to focus or anger.
My approach is unique in that I offer both Counseling and Biofeedback services. Much of my work with clients revolves around the truth that we are all born perfect and worthy of love. For some of us, traumatic experiences may have taught us that closing off our heart is safer or creating defenses protects us from being hurt again. We may hold core beliefs about ourselves and the world such as: “I am worthless and unworthy of love”, “the world is not safe”, “people I love and care about will leave me”…and so on. I will guide you as you break free from the past, feel safe and calm, and begin to live fully in the present.

Let me guess… you’ve tried therapy before but it didn’t “take.” Or… you’ve tried therapy and all you did was talk for an hour straight while somebody nodded at you, which left you wondering why you were even there in the first place. You’ll notice that most therapy gets caught up asking about your emotions; the proverbial “and how does that make you feel?” Then it’s typical to get caught up in an endless reaction loop, worrying about your emotions and where “they” are going to take you next. But consider this: what if it has nothing to do with your emotions? What if it has to do with your thinking?

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
