Have you been feeling sad, disconnected and alone? Are you withdrawing from friends and family? Does your mood affect your work. Is this affecting your relationships? Therapy is a way to explore your emotions and actions that affect your day-to-day life. The first step towards healing and change can be counseling. I will work with you and support your journey to make changes, face issues and promote healing and growth. Depression, anxiety, and loss are just a few of the things that can affect our lives. In sessions, we work to develop healthy coping skills, to understand feelings and behaviors and to promote healing. I strive to create a safe environment for you to explore your emotions.

Whether one seeks relief from anxiety, trauma, relational impasses, or life disillusionment, therapy can help. It is unfortunate that insufficiently engaged approaches to therapy, prohibitive rates, and the unconscionable reluctance of most clinicians to accept insurance fail so many clients, who in good faith seek to discover a healing of heart and mind. As a psychodynamic therapist, I view my role as an empathic change agent employed to help bring about a fuller knowledge of self and a more liberated experience of life and relationship. I also supervise highly promising interns from NWU available for as low as $15-30 per session.

Emotional, psychological, and interpersonal/social growth is a continual process of self transformation and change. At points when one feels stuck or confused in that process, or when life just isn't working, it often helps to connect with a therapist. I provide a safe space where you can be, or recover/rediscover, your authentic self; deepen the emotional connection with yourself and others; clarify thoughts, beliefs, and values; consider new ways of being in the world and w/others; develop healthier adaptive strategies for relating to yourself and others; and work through past and/or present griefs and traumas.

My specialty is working with individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, past trauma, and relationships.
Everyone experiences normal ups and downs throughout their lives. Sometimes, however, these episodes become more than we can handle alone. It is often not easy to ask for help but it can be the first step toward healthier functioning, improved relationships, and personal growth. Over the past 20 years I have helped many people navigate through life's challenges to lead more productive and fulfilling lives. Together, in a safe and supportive environment, we can uncover destructive patterns, identify strengths, and develop healthier ways of coping.

The program at this Symetria clinic goes beyond traditional therapy to treat everything hiding behind the drugs or alcohol - all while still living at home! Treatment here helps you rebalance your brain, create healthy thought patterns and heal underlying issues (like trauma, anxiety, depression or family conflict).
Don't settle for a generic drug and alcohol therapist. You deserve help that actually helps you feel happy again. (And, that's in-network with your insurance).

As a client-centered therapist I am committed to helping the therapeutic process feel natural. Clients with additions/substance abuse and relationship issues generally experience anxiety and/or depression. For some, it may be situational and in other's may cause clinically significant stress or impairment in daily living. It can be beneficial for clients to explore and discover underlying issues that may exacerbate the way they feel and behave. My promise to clients is that If I am unable to help you, I will assist you to find the necessary resources.

I've been a therapist for over 40 years and thoroughly enjoy my work. I understand the personal nature of therapy and the difficulty it takes to ask for help when already feeling overwhelmed and vulnerable. I appreciate the responsibility and privilege given me when invited to join you in discussing personal and even painful issues. I'll listen, assume nothing, judge nothing, impose nothing and try to find a solution as individual and personal as your dilemma, as quickly as possible.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
