Bearing your soul to a complete stranger can be a very stress provoking experience. Trauma, anxiety and depression are difficult journeys to take alone. I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2007, and have worked in a variety of settings to gain the experience I have to help the many difficult challenges we face in our lives. If you have childhood trauma, or adult trauma, or depression, anxiety, or even just trying to adjust to a new stage of life. Hi! My name is Billy. Are you struggling with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, stress, anger...or possibly all five? These issues are not uncommon and can be debilitating, especially when guilt or shame are added to the mix. But you can kick them all to the curb. All it takes is a willingness to change your perspectives. I've worked with thousands of clients (adults and children) who struggle with self-defeating beliefs that zap the joy out of life. And I've found that Hope and Purpose, along with healthy doses of Motivation and Creativity, crush inner demons.

Hi! My name is Tara and I am the owner of Peace of Mind Counseling Service. I am a licensed professional counselor in Ohio with 7 years of clinical experience. Positive mental health is fundamental to living a healthy well-balanced life. Although the general perception of mental health has improved in recent times, people can still be fearful of the negative stigma that is attached to mental health illnesses. This can add to the anxiety and fear of seeking mental health treatment. I can provide treatment and coping skills to manage life stressors while showing clients respect and support in a therapeutically safe environment.

Do you feel stuck, and can't get past something that's holding you back? Do you have panic attacks, flashbacks, or do you feel 'keyed up' much of the time? Are you suffering from the effects of trauma? Do you often feel anxious, and for no reason? Have your relationships suffered because of these symptoms? If so, I can help you. In fact, due to the treatment I offer, many of my clients who suffer from the effects of trauma require less than 10 sessions to experience significant symptom reduction.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
