Therapy works. Whether you are lonesome, sad, overwhelmed, isolated, unfulfilled or anxious, therapy is effective. I offer a safe and affordable space in which to build trust, create an alliance, and open up emotionally. I believe in fostering a strong attachment with each patient, and I am compassionate in the process. Together we can sort out negative thoughts and emotions, prioritize life stressors, and conquer feelings of insecurity and inadequacy. I encourage mindfulness, good health, exercise, and fun. I follow a humanistic approach.

I work with various issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, adjustment/life changes, family dysfunction, LGBTQ issues, and trauma.
I embrace a pragmatic approach to therapy, encompassing a variety of therapeutic modalities to address numerous issues. I recognize we all view life from our own, personal context. Exploring our own context allows space for understanding, empathy, forgiveness, healing, and growth. I believe the goal of therapy shouldn't only be relieving symptoms, but also to foster the positive presence of inner capacities and strengths, allowing people to live life with a greater sense of freedom, flexibility, possibility, and contentment.

I treat depression, anxiety, grief, trauma and relationship problems.
I am a licensed clinical social worker with a certificate in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. My special strength is connecting to clients and helping them to feel comfortable and understood. I never forget that doing therapy is a two way process and that I learn a lot from clients' life experience. I view therapy as the opportunity to understand and empower oneself.

Why? This is such a simple question, but perhaps one of the most difficult to answer. If we knew why – why we say the things we say, why we think the things we think, why we do the things we do – we would have more gratifying and less distressing lives. Self-awareness is the greatest gift we can give to ourselves, in order for us to reach our full potential. With your willingness and motivation, understanding your "why" is what we will work towards together in therapy.

There’s nothing I find more gratifying than helping my clients redefining purpose in their lives. While we are in a constant struggle with the expectations of others, we often lose sight of who we are ourselves. We negotiate, toil, and sacrifice—sometimes without even knowing why.

My areas of focus include but are not limited to: anxiety, depression, family conflict, marital and premarital issues, and stress management.
Life is unpredictable. You take one step forward and it pushes you two steps backwards. You jump up and gravity pulls you down. But rather than stepping in opposition of the forces of life, why not step in sync with it? Learn to dance and move to the rhythm of life. My clients learn to become mentally flexible so that they can maintain their peace as they dip, swing and dance to whatever beat life throws their way.

When we begin working together the client will set the pace and tone for treatment. This means we will work on identifying where you would like to take your treatment and how to begin. You may have realized you would like to help ease symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and even interpersonal conflicts.

Some of my specialties include working with adults with anxiety disorders, including panic, phobias, social anxiety and OCD.
Do you feel like you are not living up to your full potential? Does social anxiety, depression, or inertia get in the way of meaningful change? Practicing psychotherapy in a non-judgmental way, I work in a transparent and collaborative style with my clients. I listen deeply so we can formulate solutions together. I have trained in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), two evidence-based treatments, but believe that the relationship between the therapist and client is the most important factor. I look forward to helping you move forward in your life.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
