Whether you are seeking relief from anxiety, depression, or other emotional/relational struggles, I am here to support you on your journey towards healing and growth with a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental approach supported by humor and enthusiasm.
Welcome! I am an EMDR-trained therapist working to help individuals navigate the transitions of early adulthood, parenting, relationships, and mental health struggles to heal from traumatic experiences and achieve their goals. I believe in the power of EMDR therapy to bring lasting change and transformation through working with clients to process and integrate past experiences, resolve current problems, and enhance future potential. In addition to EMDR, I also practice a variety of other evidence-based therapies that I have used over the past 17 years to help clients improve their overall mental health.

Family and relationship issues, life transitions, depression and anxiety, are areas of particular interest.
I view treatment as a collaborative effort between client and therapist. This working relationship is an essential ingredient in the healing process. Having an eclectic approach, I try to fit the treatment to the needs of the patient. I draw from interpersonal, psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral and family systems ideas in conceptual- izing and addressing the problems at hand. It is extremely rewarding for me to assist clients in recognizing and freeing up their potential.

According to A. Maslow, you must first have your basic physiological needs met before you can reach self-actualization. If you are searching for support and guidance in making the necessary changes to improve your life, I am here for you. I work with clients who are struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorders and/or addictions. Some of my clients only require a few sessions while others have found that long term therapy is more beneficial since trust and safety are key ingredients in reaching therapeutic goals. The therapeutic alliance is most definitely related to the outcome of treatment.

I have extensive training in helping those who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and family concerns.
My passion is helping people adjust to significant transitions in their lives. Often when we experience changes in our lives, we lose our sense of balance and identity. These changes may be caused by the death of a loved one, shifts in family roles, adjustment to an illness, or new demands at school or work. In our work, you will gain a deeper understanding of how these transitions are impacting your mood, quality of life, and overall happiness. I work with clients to set and achieve realistic goals, while using one's values and strengths to help achieve these goals.

My clients are intuitive, empathic people challenged by distress in their personal lives or the world at large. You may be struggling with give and take, attachment and assertiveness in your relationships. We will tap into resources, including humor, beauty and resilience, to access healing and joy. Therapy is approached as an adventure. It can be a sacred, creative journey where you can uncover choices you may not even be able to imagine now, to more fully reengage with the world and your life.

The upheaval of the past few years has led to an awakening regarding the importance of nurturing our mental health. Many people are facing increased anxiety, depression, isolation, and uncertainty in light of today’s life challenges and changes. Some are recognizing a feeling of loss and grief that transcends the traditional definition. Others are struggling to be seen, heard, and affirmed. These experiences can be related to relationships, family, work/career, school, racial trauma, or physical health.

I work with adults and couples who want to address mood disorders (such as anxiety and depression), relationship issues, low self-esteem, and navigating life transitions.
If you’re lost, disconnected, pondering big questions, or trying to recover from these “unprecedented times,” you’re in good company. Together, we can create the change you seek. I offer a nonjudgmental, supportive space to face doubt and fear, say the unsayable, and do the uncomfortable (but fulfilling) work of growing emotionally and spiritually. We will collaborate to increase self awareness, clarify goals, redirect unhealthy patterns, and discover new possibilities and perspectives. I’m a former health journalist who listens with curiosity, asks key questions, and helps you find the authentic story you're meant to live.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
