My orientation as a therapist is grounded in the belief that trust and connection are paramount in enabling exploration. Through exploration, we can uncover the depths of our inner most selves to heal, realize change, and find peace. My approach as a therapist is framed by my background as a music therapist combined with elements of depth-oriented psychotherapy and traditional talk therapy. I work with individuals facing a range of issues including depression, anxiety, LGBTQ+ issues, relationship issues, loss and grief, substance abuse and history of trauma.

Empathy, collaboration and listening... This will guide our work together in a nonjudgmental environment. I believe that all people deserve to be treated with respect regardless of their gender expression, identity or sexual orientation. We are constantly evolving throughout our lives and what might be true for us today, may not be so tomorrow. I help individuals who are struggling with feelings of depression, anxiety and job/relationship stress. I'm well versed in the stresses that can arise when working within a corporate entity.

Many people suffer from anxiety that begins to affect every part of their life.
For many it is not easy to find the courage to begin therapy. Everyone has stress in their lives and could benefit from focusing on themselves. It is important to realize you have the power to change the way you react and how the stress influences your thoughts and feelings. Counseling can help you figure out how to best handle and understand your situation.

Contemplating change is a first step on the path towards personal growth, healing and freedom. Collaborating with a therapist to build curiosity, witness and provide mirroring could be a vital next step toward transformation. I work from a compassionate, Trauma-Informed framework, to enhance mental wellness through the exploration and connection of the mind, body and behaviors. My passion is working with families, teens and young adults who have experienced traumas, and/or who live with learning challenges, ADHD, anxiety, depression and substance use.

Everything is unpredictable. The world, both at home and elsewhere might seem chaotic and when not chaotic, dull and repetitive. We can get stuck in ruts and not feel we are moving forward with our lives. You might already have a diagnosis of anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder. Or you might just have a sense of unease or dismay at how your hard life is right now. Some also suffer from trauma or PTSD that compounds the misery. Anxiety alone can be distressing and debilitating. And worse, disheartening.

Some of the challenges I can help with include managing stress and anxiety, reducing depression, improving self-esteem/self-worth, and finding solutions to relational difficulties.
I approach traditional talk therapy with a combination of psychodynamic, humanistic, and relational theories. If words alone cannot fully capture a feeling or experience, I offer art therapy as a tool to achieve deeper understanding. Regardless of the technique, at the center of my practice is my belief that the alliance between the client and therapist is the most vital component to therapy. My goal is to create a space in which you feel safe, seen, and heard. My hope is that the people with whom I work feel comfortable enough to explore the complexities of their everyday lives and empowered to make positive changes.

I work with clients by offering psychotherapy integrated with art-making and/or evidence-based practices (CBT & EMDR Therapy). Together, we creatively explore your feelings, thoughts, relationships, and set goals. Treatment can address: anxiety, panic attacks, depression, grief, sexual assault, violence, abuse, PTSD, performance anxiety, or other stress-related issues. Past traumas and adverse events create negative self-beliefs that are maladaptive and impact each of us presently. Through a non-judgmental and compassionate lens, I hope to work with you and begin the process of healing creatively.

I have worked with clients of all ages in individual therapy - as well as couples sessions, family sessions, and groups - facilitating a space for clients to process their experiences and develop the ability to cope with a wide range of issues including but not limited to anxiety, depression, life transitions, relational issues, and low self esteem.
I provide a safe and comfortable space for clients and believe that the creative processes can be used in combination with other interventions including psychodynamic psychotherapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and mindfulness - engaging in a collaborative approach to best serve the client. As an art therapist, I have witnessed clients who have been able to process and communicate through art in ways where words may not have done justice to their feelings and experiences. I also understand that art therapy might not be for all and can support clients who wish to engage in talk therapy without including creative interventions.

I work with individuals dealing with body image issues, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and trauma.
Seeking therapy, or asking for help is not an easy step. And yet, if you are here, it is probably because you are looking for some answers, guidance, and a trustful environment where you can talk about whatever difficult situation you are going through. By taking the first step, you are showing courage and together we can help you learn to embrace your individual strengths to better cope with life hardships. In a warm, safe, and empathetic environment, I help people gain confidence, identify negative patterns, feel more in control of their own lives, and get a better understanding of what they want for themselves.

I support people struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, body image, and self-advocacy with warmth and compassion. Imagine for a moment that you are able to let go of your anxiety, release the urge to make things perfect or altogether be perfect. What space could you create for yourself to explore and grow? What space could you create to make something that feels true and authentic? People often come to me when they are ready to make this step.

I work with adults who have backgrounds of addiction, anxiety, and depression with a specialty in treating religious trauma.
Finding the right therapist who really gets you can be a challenge! I am happy to talk with you and discover together if we might be a good fit. In therapy we will look at the repetitive patterns that keep you stuck and with a moment-to-moment awareness of letting go of what holds you back from being who you want to be. This awareness naturally opens a new possibility for feeling and thinking differently. Starting therapy can be scary, but it is also a courageous step and something we do together. Whether you are new to therapy or returning after a break I can help you gain experiential insight to move in a new direction.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
