While having extensive experience treating depression, ADHD, aggression issues and personality issues, I have come to specialize in working with anxiety, stress and irritability, through a unique approach I have developed, Habits of Mind which addresses the nature of the anxious mind.
My goal is to help clients overcome those difficulties that interfere with a life of authenticity, purpose and contentment. I have extensive post-graduate training and years of experience teaching other therapists child, adolescent and adult psychotherapy. Our therapeutic work may offer thoughtful questions, insights, suggestions, skills training and emotional support, drawing on an array of approaches including interpretive understanding, cognitive restructuring, problem solving, Habits of Mind principles and DBT-based affective regulation.I encourage feedback about the process, as this is often vital in refining our work together. Therapy with children and adolescents stresses careful assessment to understand what treatment approaches would be optimal.

I offer a warm, empathic, and nonjudgmental space for clients. As a queer person myself, I have a passion for working with queer, trans, and gender-nonconforming clients. I know how important a good therapeutic experience is, as my own positive experiences in therapy inspired me to become a counselor.

Life in New York City, while exhilarating and inspiring for some, can also feel intense and overwhelming for others. As someone who strives for success, the pressures of adulthood in NYC may bring up feelings of worry and self-doubt. You might also notice some challenges in your relationships - whether with friends, partners, or family- that make it hard to form deep and lasting connections. During this phase of life, remember, you are surrounded by others who understand and empathize.

I work with adults, adolescents, couples, and families to address a wide spectrum of concerns, some of which include depression and self-esteem, relationships, anxiety, and parenting.
Do you notice patterns of behavior that you’d like to explore further? Feel dissatisfied with the way things are currently in your life? By drawing from interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral (ie. CBT and ACT), and psychodynamic modalities, I empower clients to gain insight, define goals, and develop skills/tools to live meaningful lives consistent with their values. I see psychotherapy as an interactive process that can promote insight, create positive change, and foster growth. I also bring this perspective into my work with couples and families. I can provide couples/ family psychotherapy as well as discernment counseling.

Psychotherapy is the process of facing obstacles that block our growth. In a trusting therapeutic relationship one can learn to let go of fears and unhealthy patterns of behavior. Together we will create an environment where curiosity, intellect, feelings and humor allow one to evolve and change.

I have experience working with adults and adolescents dealing with depression, anxiety, perfectionism, shame, life transitions, attachment wounds, and relationship challenges.
Informed by my previous work in documentary film and neuropsychology research, I bring together the art and the science of multiple people-centered professions. Whether in a research lab, film edit, or therapy room, I am guided by the belief that change happens as we come to understand ourselves in new and deeper ways. When we see ourselves clearly and allow ourselves to be seen by others, we become free to choose something different. From this place of knowing and being known, we will walk together into a new way of being.

Therapy is a process and I know it takes a lot of courage to seek it out. I believe that all of us have in us the right tools to change our lives and achieve our goals. Sometimes, all it takes is a little guidance and support from someone who might have a different perspective. As a licensed clinical social worker, I provide expert services working with adults and adolescents to strengthen their ability to overcome stress, grief and loss, anxiety and depression using specific interventions like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, coaching, and mindfulness training.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
