You're thriving professionally, but do you feel like you’re never good enough? Like you’re lost trying to complete a To-Do list that never ends? You feel stuck in routines that aren’t working for you? And you think through your problems over and over but nothing changes? Sarah (she/her) enjoys working with teens & adults in the Twin Cities, specializing in work with those who identify as Perfectionists and Over-achievers. The clients I enjoy working with the most commonly face the following issues—-high stress environments, self-criticism, feel stuck, experience conflict with loved ones, and struggle to feel like they are enough.

By combining a back-ground in nursing, psychology and social work, my goal is to help individuals achieve a greater sense of physical, emotional and spiritual well being. I provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals and couples who want to explore issues that may be contributing to their feelings of being stuck or dissatisfied with their way of being. I view the therapy process as a joint venture between myself and the client. I believe that every individual has the capacity to answer their own questions by drawing from their own inner wisdom.

I know no one who is "accidentally" in counseling or therapy. Thus, this step and this choice is often quite difficult. I embrace building rapport with my clients in a way that allows us to engage in a collaboration of unique, innovative and effective techniques to overcome the challenges, problems and/or difficulties they are facing, whether in their social, personal, or business life. I take pride in listening to my clients and trying to provide them thoughtful tools they can use long after our sessions are complete.

I approach therapy with empathy, curiosity, and an open heart and mind. I meet people where they are and honor everyone as the experts of their own lives. I am here to provide support and encouragement for anyone who is ready to take the brave step of asking for help. Therapy can vulnerable, but it can also be collaborative, insightful, and a heart opening experience. My priority is to create an environment of safety and inclusivity for marginalized individuals. I provide patients with effective tools on how to trust their own bodies, regulate their nervous systems, and release old beliefs so they can reclaim a life worth living.

Megan’s ideal client is a child, adolescent, partners, or parent(s) seeking understanding, meaning, and healing in their life and in their relationships. Often, these are clients that have already begun their journey; they’ve read books, taken quizzes, or have completed a workbook and yet, it’s still not working. The ideal client is ready to try something different to reach their potential. Honoring our humanity and the world we live in, I utilize an umbrella approach that begins with a Trauma-Informed and Attachment Lens. Under the umbrella, are approaches used to meet the client where they are at and enable new skills to develop.

Mental health therapy in nature: let's run or walk together. Coupling exercise with mental health treatment can make a profound impact. I have found that individuals who are committed to their treatment plans and incorporate goals that include exercise begin to feel better faster. There is something about running and/or walking in nature that just feels good.

I define trauma as "anything too much, too fast, too soon, from which you felt like you had no escape." I partner with individuals processing through trauma. As a therapist with a background in intimate partner violence, family systems, and severe mental illness, I understand how each of these can impact a life today, even though the events may have occurred years ago. Trauma informed care is foremost, and my clients receive empathetic, thoughtful, and warm care rooted in self-empowerment.

Quality of life is determined by balancing life's critical components. Dr.Alfred Adler created Individual Psychology based on these components. Adler developed : OUR LIFE TASKS 1. An adequate sense of self 2. The connection to a significant other. 3. A purpose driven life. 4. Spirituality, a belief in something more than yourself. Dr. Adler believed being unbalanced in any of these areas created uncomfortable thoughts and feelings. A continuation of and consequence of these thoughts and feeling is psychological dysfunction.

Hello! My name is Andrew and thanks for considering my profile. Reaching out to a therapist can be intimidating, especially when you are feeling stressed or unhappy. The first thing you should know about me is that I am laid-back, informal, and nonjudgmental; I just refuse to be the cold, clinical therapist-type! I will work hard to establish a real connection with you and to create a truly safe and compassionate environment for new insight, growth and healing. I believe the most important part of therapy is the alliance between therapist and client; if we don’t have a strong connection, sessions aren’t as effective.

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 18 years of experience working with individual adults, adolescents, couples and families. I work from a client-centered perspective. I believe that seeking help does not mean one is “sick, bad, stupid or crazy”. We all feel stuck in life sometimes, which can often bring out hopelessness. Life’s challenges are unavoidable; I am passionate about helping others overcome those obstacles that might feel impossible. While we may be experts on ourselves, we can all benefit from the perspective of someone outside of ourselves to help us find the changes we long to see in our lives.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Minnetonka?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
