Some of my specialties include: anxiety, trauma, complex trauma, relationship issues, codependency, trust issues, coping with stress, depression, chronic health issues, occupational stress, and life transitions.
Day after day you feel like you're focused on others and their reactions or ending up in relationships that leave you feeling alone and disappointed? Maybe you find yourself laying down at night feeling like your mind is racing and getting yet another night of restless sleep? If you're finding yourself feeling too overwhelmed to make decisions, questioning your relationships and yourself, or feeling trapped by your past, it might be time to reach out. It can be lonely, terrifying, and confusing to make sense of what you're feeling in your mind and body and taking that first step requires a lot of strength.

Are you feeling stressed out? On the surface it may look like you have it all: a wonderful partner, nice family, or a great career but underneath, you are overwhelmed. Others may think you are put together, sometimes, even coming to you for support. They don't realize you are experiencing increased worry, anxiousness, and exhaustion. You feel stressed out, distracted, and even panicked. You just can't keep up. When you stop to think about it, you are not living the life you expected. You are tired and don't know where to turn.

Does it seem like everyone around you has it all together while you’re barely keeping your head above water? Does it seem as though your thoughts have been filled with unstoppable worry and maybe they've even begun to tell you lies that you’re beginning to believe. Perhaps it feels that no matter how much you’ve tried to erase ‘it’ from your mind, it keeps coming up and interrupting your life – making it hard to trust, to feel, to focus, to dream, to enjoy life. You wish for a day where you are free from it all and you want a therapist who understands and can help you heal from deep within. I just might be your therapist...

Walkwithmecounseling.org - - - - - - - - - - - Are you thinking about seeing a therapist, but worried it might be too ...scary ...difficult ...boring, or the therapist too rigid or pushy? Or maybe it's just the idea of always being stuck sitting in an office that's stopped you? Then you may have found your way to the right place! I've always been pretty laid back, and it’s not hard for me to find humor in a situation and make space for the healing aspects of laughter. I've found that this can help to create a safe and relaxed space and sometimes make working through struggles feel a bit more like....a curious adventure.

My father was an alcoholic who drank to coverup anxiety and depression and eventually died from it. His life and subsequent death has had a significant impact on me. I couldn't save him but I realized from an early age that I wanted to help others with their problems. Perhaps you have a difficult situation or feel stuck or discouraged. Together we will work to build a supportive and safe relationship; identify and clarify issues; help you tell your unique story; and develop strategies for action so that you can make positive changes and move forward in your life.

Being a woman today can mean living with a lot of insecurity and anxiety. You want to appear successful and put together, but deep down you are struggling to figure out who you are, cope with the chaos in your life, and work through a difficult past. The pressures of everyday life fill you with constant overwhelm, relationships feel distant and stressful, and your energy reserves have been depleted. You can hold it together and make it through the day, but by the time you get home you are exhausted. Cooking, dinner, socialization, and parenting seem like impossible tasks.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
