The path to a quality world can be intimidating for people. I understand how it can feel like it is one that you are on alone. My work with diverse groups: adolescents, people that identify as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples, and people with disabilities (PWDs) informs me of some of these challenges. My experience supporting clients in their path to wellness through anxiety, depression, trauma, disability acceptance, adoption/reunification, incarceration, personality disorders and relationship/intimacy challenges makes me confident in the progress we can achieve in counseling together.

Counseling provides a safe place for healing to occur. Children, teens and adults benefit from a private spot to sort out conflicting feelings, difficult life circumstances and relationship problems. Learning new ways of facing dilemmas present in everyday life produces energy. During therapy, many of my clients begin to experience an inner calm, increased self confidence and/or a clearer sense of self-concept, which in turn leads to a deeper sense of well being.

Welcome! Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression or simply life dissatisfaction, my goal is to provide a space of safety and appreciation for your unique struggles. I specialize in improving relationships. Whether you're in a couple or single and seeking partnership, I work with an understanding of attachment patterns to help you form deeper, more stable bonds. In addition to my individual work, I have expertise in marital counseling and therapist supervision.

I specialize in anxiety, depression, and trauma.
Hi! Thank you for looking over my page! I enjoy working with teens and adults and have over 20 years of experience. My greatest passion lies in working on relationships: the relationship you have with yourself and the relationships you have with those around you. For younger clients, it is to bring more self-awareness into their frame of reference. My ideal client participates in the session. Tell me your thoughts on our progress, on how we do things, on your goals. If you're unsure, I'll start, and we can adjust as we go. Welcome to YOUR team. You're the captain and the one who makes the decisions.

I use mindfulness-based interventions, CBT, anxiety-reducing exercises, play therapy, and plain old talk therapy (very powerful!) to get to the root cause of challenges you are experiencing.
In seeking therapeutic support, your body has already begun the healing process, and I hope you realize how courageous it was for you to take this first step. You have the innate wisdom and strength to overcome your struggles, but you might need someone to walk alongside you on your journey. This is where I come in: I specialize in counseling adult and teen women, but I help people of all ages navigate their way through their inner and outer worlds, empowering them to meet whatever comes their way to make the choices that are right for them.

I'm particularly interested in working with individuals of all ages, families, couples, and non-monogamous partners who experience anxiety, disordered eating, depression, & questions of sexual orientation and gender identity.
Hello! I'm Nicholas. As a graduate student therapist, my goal is to provide you with the time, space, respect, and consideration you need to feel safe, listened to, and accepted unconditionally. My approach to therapy is free of judgment, focused on empowerment, and informed by each client's identities and positionalities. Here, I want to acknowledge my own personal identities as a queer, white, cisgender man and to note that I build upon my training by attending to points of intersectionality, privilege, oppression, and social justice in my praxis; I believe all our unique life experiences are shaped by our multiple identities.

You haven’t felt like yourself in a long time. Despite many attempts, you struggle to show up for your responsibilities, loved ones, and yourself. You have dreams and aspirations, but somehow taking those first steps feels insurmountable. You feel like you’re spending all your energy just to make it through the day, aimlessly spinning your wheels. You are ready for additional support to build a more robust and fulfilling life. My background lends itself well to teens and adults facing the negative impacts of ADHD, depression, and trauma. I am also passionate about working with LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent folks.

It can be a struggle to maintain relationships with others and be productive when you are feeling overwhelmed with life. I will provide a safe place for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. It is possible that you may have a difficult time pinpointing what exactly is wrong, the important thing is that you know that you do not feel right, and that you would like for this to change. It is ok for you to not have all the words to express your feelings, together we will figure it out.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
