Looking for a therapist can be overwhelming. My hope is that this will give you an idea of who I am and what it might be like for us to sit together. I have been a therapist for 21 years. What is important to you is important to me. Each session is tailored to your needs. Sometimes you may want more structure or feedback. Sometimes you might just need someone to listen, to witness your pain, and know you were heard. That is how I see my role: to be a human being sitting with another human being offering emotional help, support, & insights. You're not going through this alone.

As a somatic therapist, I’m trained to help you regulate your nervous system, work through trauma, and learn to process your feelings. Somatic experiencing is for people who have either been in therapy before and feel like they’re "talked out,” or who are new to therapy and want to try a more mind-body approach. This work is powerful and I’m so honored I get to share it with you and help you get to a more regulated place in your life.

I have over a decade of experience working with adults 18 and over, struggling with various mental health issues, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, PTSD, stress management, anger management, disruptive thoughts, disturbed sleep, and chronic pain.
Everyone needs and deserves compassion, kindness, and to feel felt. This can be a challenge for many people. My intention is to help people heal with validation, support, and with no judgment. Our minds can be a very busy, exhausting, and intrusive place. I work with clients to help them feel empowered as they learn to manage their thoughts and emotions to feel more comfortable in their daily life.

I work with individuals and families on a range of issues including depression, anxiety, parenting special needs children, relationship issues, divorce, and trauma.
Finding the right therapist with whom to create a strong therapeutic alliance is paramount to success. I work with my clients in a framework of compassion, honesty, trust and safety. Together we will identify your goals, empower you to change what you can in your life and to learn acceptance, not passive resignation, for that which you can not change. Carl Jung put it best, “I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become”.

You're over it. Feeling sad and heartbroken about what you've endured in life. You don't want to continue struggling to get through the day. Your nervous system feels like it's in survival mode to cope and it's affecting your relationships, self-worth, and work. It's time for that black cloud over your head to stop controlling you. Whether you're struggling with identity, sexuality, relational trauma, grief, anxiety, or burnout, you have options to grow beyond this quicksand keeping you stuck.

Is your experience with pregnancy, postpartum, or parenting not going as you expected it might? Instead of joy, are you having feelings of anxiety, sadness, overwhelm, stress, worry, and/or grief? Though these experiences are completely normal to have, they do not have to stay that way. If you’re struggling with fertility challenges, pregnancy, postpartum, the transition to parenthood, or being a parent, I'm here to connect.

It's all too much. The never-ending responsibility to care for others at work and meeting your loved one's needs at home is a heavy weight to bear. As a high achiever, you've always been able to take on life's demands. But lately, you're trying to do it all while feeling completely overwhelmed. Overwhelmed with self-doubt, anxiety, and sometimes even feeling debilitated/frozen. At the end of the day, you're disappointed in yourself for being short with others, going through the motions with no real joy, and realizing that none of your own needs were met. You're mentally exhausted, frustrated, & need help getting off this carousel.

I believe it takes strength and courage to seek therapy. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space in which you can explore attitudes and beliefs/patterns which get in the way of accomplishing your full potential and fully engaging in life. I utilize techniques from positive psychology, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and dialectal behavioral therapy to connect my clients with their "true, inner selves," something which we most often lose touch with as we go about our lives in this often unpredictable and stressful world. I also believe in the power of humor and laughter as tools in the healing process.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
