Navigating life is challenging, and sometimes we could use a little help becoming the best versions of ourselves. Sometimes we struggle with depression, anxiety, life transitions, self-esteem issues, relationship challenges, stress, racial identity, feeling stuck, and traumatic situations. But, you do not have to work through it alone; it all happens to be my area of expertise. I help adults and couples overcome those obstacles and transform their lives. My 18-year career has been devoted to supporting and empowering others, especially BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) clients.

To everyone around you, it looks like you've "got it together." But deep inside, you feel like an impostor. Even though your life looks great on the surface, you feel anxious, as if it could all fall apart at any moment. You'd like to be more authentic, but you worry about what would happen if other people knew the "real" you. What would happen if you really lived your TRUE self in the world? That's scary, so you put on an act. But the act is getting exhausting. Sometimes, you wonder if you've spent so much time faking it that you've lost sight of your true self altogether.

It is my belief that the most important relationship we can cultivate is the one that we have with ourselves. This relationship is reflected in our everyday life and enables us to heal and grow. However, during challenging times we may need someone alongside us as we work to understand the inner workings of ourselves. I believe therapy is a space for you to show up as your true unedited self, free of worry and expectations. Together we will co-create a warm and empathic space where you can share your stories and begin to find peace, safety, and harmony with all parts of your authentic self.

I enjoy working with adults, teens, and adolescents with issues related to anxiety, depression, traumatic life events, life transitions, relationships, and self-esteem.
Everyone has the right to openly express their feelings, understand their emotions, and learn new skills to alleviate stress and challenges experienced throughout life. I understand how difficult the first steps may be and I am motivated to help those in need reach their personal goals. The power of listening to and speaking with each other while using skills learned in sessions can create amazing changes that I seek to see in my clients. By creating a safe space together where you can feel comfortable, understood, and free of judgment, the power of growth and healing will come hand in hand.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
