I have had the opportunity to work with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, trauma, parenting challenges, juvenile delinquent behavior, self-harm, and issues of self-worth.
I am a bilingual therapist providing individual, family, group, and couple's counseling in both English and Spanish. I enjoy working with a wide range of ages, and hold a special fondness for the adolescent and young adult population. Years of experience have prepared me for working with adolescent issues, parenting issues, and mood disorders.

I specialize in adolescent and pre-adolescent boys (middle school) for a variety of issues including Asperger's Syndrome, oppositional defiance, ADHD, anxiety, and depression.
I work with clients to identify the core issues you struggle with and how you can deal with them to meet your goals. Sometimes, this has to do with dealing with other people and things around us. Other times, it is our own internal thoughts and struggles that get in the way.

Integrating a variety of treatment approaches, I work with adults of all ages experiencing diverse challenges, including anxiety, depression, loss and grief, and prolonged or sudden trauma.
When you are struggling with problems that seem new and confusing, or come up against issues that have been with you most of your life, your wise inner Self may say, “It’s time for some help.” I will journey with you as you identify needs, remove blocks, and make choices resulting in greater freedom. A safe, consistent environment will allow you to ask the questions, dare to hear the answers, and commit to doing whatever you decide will enrich, will deepen, your life. I will listen intently, focus questions, suggest different perspectives, explore strategies for addressing stuck places, and support your courageous efforts to change.

I have experience working with children, adolescent, young adult and adults with behavioral issues, ADHD, autism spectrum, anxiety, depression and self-esteem issues.
It can be difficult to reach out for help at times. It shows bravery and strength and may take personal motivation to do so. Reaching out is that first step showing you have what takes to heal. I will meet you at your point of need. I help clients like you develop the skills needed to create change, accomplish goals, and live a healthier happier life. With success we begin to change our beliefs that were creating hardship to ones that create growth, health, confidence, and acceptance. I strive to treat every person as family with a warm, compassionate approach.

In life, we face a myriad of transitions, which impact us throughout every decade of our journey. Such transitions often cause anxiety, depression and/or a sense of sadness, loneliness or loss of direction. We may wonder "who am I now" or "where do I belong". Life changes impact our relationships with romantic partners, our parents, our children and our friends. I specialize in working with people as they navigate life's transitions. I help clients to understand and make sense of what can bring greater satisfaction into their lives, with a focus on building more effective and adaptive coping skills.

Everyone's therapy needs are different! I take a collaborative, non-judgmental approach to honor those unique needs. I believe I have a responsibility as a therapist to create a safe, supportive, open environment where clients feel empowered to take an active role in their therapy process. When working with clients on concerns including anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship concerns, trauma, parenting, and work/school concerns I focus on patterns within and across generations of families, balance between connectedness and individuality, and increasing your ability to cope with and tolerate stress.

For many people, persistent and unresolved mental health issues lead to a downward spiral of marital strife, parenting difficulties, legal problems, stress, anxiety and depression. These issues can negatively impact their quality of life.

Starting therapy can be intimidating, but the first session often alleviates worry as we collaboratively discuss concerns and establish goals.
We can all feel overwhelmed with life sometimes. Life is challenging and often unpredictable. I believe strongly that the power of a trusting relationship can help us work through what holds us back and keeps us from living the life we want. I primarily work with children, adolescents and young adults.

My broad expertise gained through clinical practice, advanced training, and as a professor helps me facilitate change for individuals of all ages, families, and couples from diverse cultural backgrounds and to help those suffering from depression, anxiety, trauma, insomnia, eating disorders, behavioral and relationship issues, and other concerns.
I enjoy helping individuals heal, see breakthroughs, and increase their resilience and ability to find effective approaches to their presenting concerns.  My passion is to empower clients to manage life difficulties that encroach on their envisioned life architecture by gently identifying and removing obstacles, learning adaptive coping, finding meaning and strength, and sometimes rebuilding from the very foundation when faced with life-changing adversities.  Issues germinate and gain destructive power if ignored or dealt with using unhelpful distractions, so you can feel good about taking that first step to call me with no delay.

It's anxiety-provoking to invite someone into the nuance of your life and potentially feel judged.
As an AASECT-certified sex therapist, I work with individuals and couples facing challenges regarding differences in sex drive, sexual pain & dysfunctions such as ED and vaginismus, issues with orgasm, and other issues related to intimacy and performance. While anxiety is not always the cause of these challenges, anxiety is certainly part and parcel of how they manifest. Therapy is geared towards optimizing mental and physical health, managing anxiety through lifestyle changes, improving communication with loved ones, and reaching for better quality of life, which frequently includes: better sex!

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
