In 2016 I started working with parents with young children. Thus began a real passion of mine to support maternal and infant mental health outcomes. I thoroughly enjoy working with teenagers and parents of young children. In my sessions, I encourage and nourish a relaxing and lighthearted atmosphere that both welcomes all and encourages them to speak their truth. I’m a goofball a heart!

Some of the most common are depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, and anger management.
I am passionate about partnering with my clients on their journey to improve their lives. It has been rewarding to watch the people I serve discover that they are already doing many things to help themselves through difficult situations, and our work together builds on those strengths. In sessions, you can expect to be heard, valued, and respected in a comfortable, safe, and nonjudgmental space where you can find the tools you need to achieve your goals.

I received my Masters in Social Work from Michigan State University, and have experience in trauma/abuse, cultural despondency, sports psychology, and depression/anxiety.
I believe that you are the expert of your life and that as your therapist, I would offer an outside perspective to assist with reframing and providing interventions for in-between sessions to help you make the most of your therapeutic experience and achieve your goals. Everyone deserves to have opportunities to grow and be their best version of themselves, regardless of self-perceived or societal-imposed limitations. Talk therapy is highly effective, however I also like to emphasize research-based treatment modalities and provide tangible feedback and interventions that are realistically applicable to the individual.

Areas of particular interest include: dual diagnosis, depression, anxiety, life transitions, trauma and PTSD, domestic violence, domestic abuse, relationship issues, self-esteem, codependency issues, and working with women's issues.
Working in a variety of social work and mental health settings over the past 20 years, has taught me to implement a straightforward, nonjudgmental, compassionate, and empathetic approach, when working with people. As an interactive therapist, I offer a safe and supportive environment, where I encourage people to utilize their voice, not only to build on their own strengths and resiliency, but to collaborate together to address their needs and goals during this process.

Searching for help is a courageous first step to change. You may be feeling anxious or depressed. Are you looking for support in changing addictive behaviors from a non-judgmental approach? Perhaps you have experienced traumatic events that have left you feeling "stuck." Or maybe you have relationship issues and aren't sure where to go from here. Many of my clients have experienced grief and loss and simply need support working through the stages of grief. I have also served children and families. Whatever your needs, there IS hope.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
