You may even experience some mild depression or anxiety.
Throughout our lifespan, we will be faced with transitions. Children experiences changes within the family as well as school, friends, and daily routine. Then there’s puberty, which brings about a whole new set of changes in a teenager. Early adulthood is full of change, as well as a search for meaning and purpose. Marriage, divorce, birth of children, death of parents, middle age, retirement, and on and on! Sometimes we can move through these transitions smoothly; however, other times it doesn’t go quite as well.

I also treat anxiety disorders, help with stress management, and in dealing with the aftermath of traumatic events.
Taking charge of my life is something that I have worked hard to do, and something I love helping others do! So many people repeat patterns learned in the past that keep them stuck today-in addictions, negative patterns of thinking and behaving, and unhealthy relationships. Learning how to take charge of my thoughts, actions, and reactions has eliminated many of my self-defeating patterns and has made life much more peaceful, and fun! Let's free your present and your future from your past!

I am passionate about helping teenagers and young adults dealing with depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem and confidence, school challenges, work issues, family or peer conflict, relationship issues, and/or trauma.
Hi! I’m Camay. Take a moment to yourself now and take a deep breath. I want you to imagine what your life will look like when you no longer have to carry the heavy weight of sadness, fear, worry, shame, guilt, negative thoughts, anger, and/or the feeling that you aren’t good enough or that you don’t matter. With that image in mind, do you feel confident that you have all the tools you need to make that vision a reality on your own? Or would it be easier to experience life’s challenges if you had support and new tools to overcome them?

Special interests include anxiety and depression, women's issues, parenting skills and support, teens and young adults, relationships, coping with health conditions, support for medical professionals, stress management for better life balance, and life transitions.
As a doctoral-level psychologist practicing in Florida for over 20 years, my approach to helping clients make lasting improvements in their lives includes providing hope for change, research-based techniques and practical problem-solving skills. Specific and customized treatment goals are developed collaboratively, beginning in the first session. Why choose a psychologist rather than a counselor or therapist? A psychologist's expertise is more in-depth. Additionally, an important aspect of a great therapeutic relationship is the fit with your provider, feeling safe, hopeful, respected, and motivated to take the steps to grow.

I specialize in working with women and moms experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, difficulty coping or regulating emotions, postpartum depression or anxiety, relationship struggles, stressful life transitions, a desire to build mindfulness skills and self-compassionate self-talk, or a readiness to live life in a fully authentic way.
Gaining the skills and self-compassion to guide your way through challenging emotions and experiences can be life changing. I believe it is so important to speak our feelings honestly, especially the ones that hold shame for us, with those we feel safe to do so around. There's no greater antidote for shame than hearing someone else say, "me too" or "I see you." I will absolutely be that person for you. Our therapeutic relationship will create a nurturing pathway to access your vulnerability in a way that feels safe and healing. My approach is warm and skillful, utilizing humanistic, cognitive behavioral, and mindfulness techniques.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
