I specialize in helping individuals navigate major life changes or transitions. This might include getting married or divorced, caring for a partner or relative, welcoming a new child, changing jobs or careers, getting older, mid-life uncertainty, losing a loved one. These types of changes can feel destabilizing and create anxiety or depression, even if the change is something you want. Many clients come in saying they feel stuck and don't know what to do anymore. Talking through these life events and understanding how they affect you can help reduce the worry and uncertainty, making it easier to think clearly and make decisions.

My practice covers a variety of issues including (but not limited to) – anxiety, panic attacks, depression, bi-polar, PTSD, grief/bereavement, family or relationship conflict, attachment struggles, school/work-based performance concerns, and life transitions.
The idea of counseling can be scary. I use humor to normalize symptoms of stress and provide a comfortable environment to let go and take new supported risks. My clients come here to gain a sense of what patterns are keeping them stuck and to face what has been avoided so they can achieve greater satisfaction and fulfillment in their lives. My objective is to help bring awareness to the answers that lie within you, learn stress reduction techniques, and guide you to take supported risks that can change your life.

I believe many clients have answers within but are blocked from recognizing or implementing them. Through careful, compassionate listening, I ask questions that help them find solutions that resonate. I approach my clients with unconditional positive regard and without judgement. Together, we will set strengths-based goals that will help you more fully realize your potential. In addition to being trained in traditional counseling, I am trained in Pastoral Counseling, and I can integrate spirituality into the counseling process. I define spirituality broadly, seeing it as the way a person finds meaning.

Many of my clients feel removed from their lives and relationships, almost like they're watching as an outsider. Therapy is a gift of time set aside to pause and acknowledge how you’re feeling, and what you need. In times of high anxiety, frustration, or loneliness, it’s important to develop meaningful ways to be present with our emotions and to learn new ways to nurture ourselves in the midst of life’s challenges. I specialize in relational therapy, a type of therapy that focuses on the quality of your relationships, both with yourself and with others. The goal in therapy is to help you navigate current challenges, past traumas, and to develop more healthy relationship patterns moving forward.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
