The strategies are effective in the treatment of depression, anxiety, addiction, & other emotional issues.
Change is not easy; it is difficult; it takes courage. Although challenging, change is possible. In order to change, the individual must have the motivation & be given the opportunity to do so. I will work with you in a collaborative effort to improve your emotional state. My goal is to provide you with an appropriate, caring, & supportive environment where the steps towards change can become a possibility. Empathy is paramount to my practice. My theoretical orientations are primarily Cognitive-behavioral & Person-centered; although, I also use various eclectic & insight/awareness-oriented approaches.

I offer a compassionate approach to psychotherapy that works through the body to bring unconscious information (often held as tensions, chronic illness, nervous system disorders, anxiety, depression, nightmares, low self-esteem and inabilities to function at full capacity)into conscious awareness, facilitating deep and lasting changes. Our childhood wounds and traumas become blocks to the manifestation of our purpose/gifts. I honor the inherent wisdom of my clients and help them find authentic expression of their gifts. My strengths are my ability to use my intuition to help clients "put the pieces together," and my own personal experience with resolving trauma.

You've heard of PTSD. You think you might have it. You don't know what to do about it. Your sleep is an issue because you have nightmares. Even when you don't have nightmares, you don't feel rested in the morning. You avoid pieces and parts of your life because you fear being triggered by past trauma. When the stress increases in your life, you notice higher anxiety and scarier thoughts. You want to let go of the abuse and trauma of the past. Maybe you've heard about EMDR, but you don't know where to start. When you're ready to deal with trauma, you want to start as soon as possible.

I work with clients who are struggling with substance abuse, addiction, anxiety, depression, anger, identity, and transition.
Seeking counseling can be a difficult first step. It's hard for us to acknowledge our pain, and often we feel guilty about it. Feelings aren't good or bad, they just are--the consequences of those feelings are what we can influence. Counseling is important because it can provide a safe place to speak the truth about what we are going through. Our truth is powerful and can be a motivator for making changes to how we feel and what we do. Counseling can help us identify our values, goals, & beliefs and to harness them to help us heal.

I specialize in anxiety and depression, relationships, codependency, chronic pain and fatigue, autoimmune issues, and the effects of being raised by or in a partnership with someone with a personality disorder.
My work with clients is based on the value of relationships and building resiliency. My first priority as a clinician is to help clients feel safe so they can do the work that leads to meaningful, long-term change. I use a compassionate and collaborative approach to facilitate curiosity rather than judgment. It is not my goal to change my clients; My hope is to help them shift their relationships with themselves in order to feel less shame, more power, and have more meaningful connections with others. It is my job to “hold the space,” so my clients can explore who they are, how they feel, and what they need.

We humans are blessed with big brains, but overthinking causes suffering. It is natural to be anxious or worried at times. Past experiences can overwhelm our system and drag us down. The unknowable future can be frightening too. Life may become very uncomfortable! Without effective coping skills, we risk developing self-sabotaging habits that address our discomfort only in the short term. Habits like avoiding situations, abusing drugs/alcohol/gaming/food/relationships prolong our discomfort! All ages struggle with discomfort and seek relief. You could spend a lifetime yearning for ease while change is within reach.

Research is consistently showing it is effective treating anxiety and depression, and improving Executive Functioning of our Central Nervous Systems.
I strive to be a positive investment, not a cost, to people who choose to trust me and work toward their higher potential. I believe we each have more potential than we realize. I know I do not succeed unless you do. There are ways to deal with stress, heal from trauma, readjust our underlying beliefs, and move on, thrive, living a life we can value and find worthwhile.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
