I have clinical experience working with all genders struggling with anxiety, depression, anger management, relationships, co-dependency, eating disorders, and obsessive compulsive disorder.
Have you ever heard the saying "the mind is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master?" I can help you learn to not follow your every thought as if it is a command, and to be more connected to the present moment. Integrity, humility, benevolence, and community are the core values of my practice. As your therapist, I will help you identify your core values and what is most important to you. Once we know what is most important, we can nourish those areas while changing how you relate to unhelpful thinking patterns. I believe therapy is about repairing relationships, whether to food, to your body, to others or with yourself.

My specialties include: Substance use, Addictions, Trauma, Grief, Anxiety/Depression, Life Transitions, Existentialism, and Spirituality.
Our individual experiences shape us - they inform our behaviors, perceptions, and attitudes about ourselves and the world around us. In particular our experiences of grief, loss, and trauma have a significant impact on who we are as adults. My work in addictions has shown me the implications that unresolved childhood trauma and grief has on a person, and how it shows up in adulthood. Unprocessed emotions are stored in the crevices of our mind, waiting for the opportunity to be expressed. My goal is to help you process stuck emotions, grief and trauma in a way that works for you, and at your own pace.

"Loving ourselves through the process of owning our story is the bravest thing we'll ever do." ~Brene Brown~ Have you found life hasn't turned out the way you expected? Sometimes that can be a wonderful thing, and other times that reality can be frustrating to accept or work through. I believe those frustrations, when left unaddressed, can and often do lead to feelings of depression and/or anxiety, and can also put a strain on relationships. I believe therapy should be a safe space to give voice to those frustrations and an opportunity for healing.

Each of us has the ability to impact the world in a unique and powerful way and we are all born with the desire to deeply connect with others. Struggles with anxiety, depression, insecurity, burnout and stress can discourage us and keep us from realizing our full potential. Counseling gives you the opportunity to feel seen, heard and understood as well as challenged. It is through therapy that we come to understand ourselves more fully allowing personal growth, self esteem and possibly true satisfaction with the life we are given.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
