The issues which I enjoy working with the most are those related to relationships and family dynamics. One of the areas of most interest to me is working with individuals who are coming out of a relationship with a partner who had narcissistic personality traits. I became licensed as a marriage and family therapist in 1998 and have worked as a family therapist in substance abuse treatment programs, residential treatment programs for children and adolescents, and residential treatment programs for women. I also work with many individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and trauma.

And the anxiety that may be present in reaching out.
Hi, I’m Deb. I work with you to understand the "whys” behind your feelings. I’m good at helping you figure out effective responses to dealing with the people and problems in your life. We work together to understand what’s making you unhappy. And more important, we spend time uncovering what makes you happy. We’ll create goals to get you where you want to be and develop strategies to manage the bumps along the way. And through it all, I provide support and accountability. Please contact me to see if you think we will work well together.

Allow me to help resolve and overcome the road blocks in your life. I am a licensed counselor that specializes in child, adolescent, and adult issues including trauma, self-esteem, depression, grief/loss, and anxiety. I believe the adjustment to parenthood can be quite challenging and therefore work with new parents in a variety of post partum issues as the transition is made in their new life. I believe when problems are not addressed, they become magnified and all encompassing. I value each individual's therapeutic journey and enjoy the role in helping facilitate this!

Together, we will identify the core conflict that is making you feel anxious, depressed, or causing you to engage in behaviors that aren't serving you well.
Do you feel alone in the world? Find it difficult to get out of bed? Have difficulty concentrating or remembering? Find yourself avoiding people? Do you sometimes find yourself panicky, with heart racing, can't breathe, palms sweaty, hands trembling? Do you use alcohol, drugs, pornography to cope? Rest assured, I will never judge you. I will accept you and what you are going through. I became a mental health professional to give people like you a safe, warm environment, where you don't have to feel so alone in the world. I am passionate about working with people like yourself, when your inner dialogue keeps you from enjoying life.

I particularly enjoy working with clients struggling with anxiety, anger, trauma, or who are confronting difficult life transitions like parenthood, infertility, aging, or loss.
At its best, therapy is a space for intense self-discovery and exciting exploration. It is often true that the things we struggle with most lead us to encounters with our deepest values, and I am inspired by the way in which struggle can be transformed into strength and groundedness through careful, sensitive work. As a therapist, I’ll help you see the parts of you (your strengths, your challenges, your patterns) that have been invisible to you until now. After successful therapy, it should feel like you are seeing yourself clearly for the first time.

If you're living with 'stuck-ness,' depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, struggling with relationship challenges or experiencing a life transition, I'm eager to meet with you to examine these issues in depth and assist you in feeling more resourced. My hope for our therapeutic relationship is that we're able to create a safe container for you to slow down, let go of what no longer serves you and increase awareness of the interrelationships of the mind, body and spirit. I’m interested in helping you step fully into the uniqueness of who you already are and assisting you in building self love and acceptance.

Change is not linear. I have come to understand the numerous challenges in life that can make you feel as if you have gone nowhere. The anxiety that sets in is alarming and the depression that may later consume you feels debilitating. However, my work has also taught my the impact we often have on our own suffering: how we often jump to "I can't" instead of "I can try." We have all found ourselves deep in self-doubt, feeling stuck in the symptoms of depression and anxiety. Are you hoping to see how change and success can become more linear overtime? My approach can help you get there.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
