I particularly enjoy working with clients struggling with anxiety, anger, trauma, or who are confronting difficult life transitions like parenthood, infertility, aging, or loss.
At its best, therapy is a space for intense self-discovery and exciting exploration. It is often true that the things we struggle with most lead us to encounters with our deepest values, and I am inspired by the way in which struggle can be transformed into strength and groundedness through careful, sensitive work. As a therapist, I’ll help you see the parts of you (your strengths, your challenges, your patterns) that have been invisible to you until now. After successful therapy, it should feel like you are seeing yourself clearly for the first time.

Life will inevitably bring up intense emotions and feelings: shame, fear, confusion, etc. Overwhelming pressure, life transitions, past trauma, or simply the burden of daily stressors can pile on you until it feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. When overwhelmed, you may find it relatively impossible to maintain close relationships with family, friends, and significant others. This can create a vicious cycle of anxiety, isolation, and hopelessness. It can feel like you have no way out of this bleak season.

During these unprecedented times, it is more important than ever to take care of our mental and emotional health. Whatever issues you may be dealing with, seeking help is a brave and necessary first step. I enjoy working with individuals struggling with problems related to mood, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse and life transitions. As a mom of 3, I also have an interest in working with new parents or parents of young children as they navigate the obstacles and challenges that often come with this particular stage of life.

I trained in Best Practices: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma, stress, anxiety, grief, communication issues, relationship change, drug and alcohol issues, and depression have been my focus.
Great therapy results stem from a strong, trusting connection with an experienced therapist. I have developed a practice that focuses on a person's strengths, bringing awareness to life and family history, its influences, and the coping skills used then and now. If you want support finding answers in a confidential, constructive, and balanced approach, I am here for that.

I’ve worked with individuals who struggle with eating disorders, anxiety, trauma, identity and gender issues for over 20 years.
Are you feeling stuck and getting the support you need from someone who gets it has proved challenging? Do you feel like food or your body have taken over your life and things you once enjoyed don’t feel as important anymore? Have you tried getting better on your own and it just doesn’t seem to work? I know the thought of change in and of itself can be scary without knowing what the outcome will be, but this is where I come in to help.

I am particularly trained in working with adults and children who suffer from persistent obsessions, compulsions, social anxiety, panic attacks, phobias and chronic worry and/or stress. Many individuals I see also have other issues that are also addressed as part of the therapy. Cognitive behavior therapy is an excellent treatment for these issues, which often empowers the individual to get better control using specific tools and an individualized plan tailored to their needs. Therapy tends to be relatively short term with maintenance or follow up sessions as needed to ensure individuals maintain their gains.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
