I work with clients who are struggling with substance abuse, addiction, anxiety, depression, anger, identity, and transition.
Seeking counseling can be a difficult first step. It's hard for us to acknowledge our pain, and often we feel guilty about it. Feelings aren't good or bad, they just are--the consequences of those feelings are what we can influence. Counseling is important because it can provide a safe place to speak the truth about what we are going through. Our truth is powerful and can be a motivator for making changes to how we feel and what we do. Counseling can help us identify our values, goals, & beliefs and to harness them to help us heal.

I work with adults and adolescents dealing with stress, anxiety, trauma, anger management, grief/loss, shame and relationship issues.

My specialty areas include grief/loss, chronic/terminal illness, trauma, abuse, infertility, post-partum mood disorders, divorce/children of divorce, depression/anxiety, ADD/ADHD, gifted and twice-exceptional children, play therapy, art therapy and family and couples therapy.
I have provided counseling services in Denver since completing graduate school in 1999. I worked in both pediatric and adult medical settings, including hematology/oncology, emergency trauma and hospice. For 8 years, I worked at a school and community based medical clinic providing psychotherapy to all ages. I have also enjoyed private practice over the years. In each setting I work, including private practice, my therapeutic modality varies, but I always come from a strengths based/empowerment approach. I love somatic (mind/body) based work, as I am also a yoga teacher.

I particularly enjoy working with clients struggling with anxiety, anger, trauma, or who are confronting difficult life transitions like parenthood, infertility, aging, or loss.
At its best, therapy is a space for intense self-discovery and exciting exploration. It is often true that the things we struggle with most lead us to encounters with our deepest values, and I am inspired by the way in which struggle can be transformed into strength and groundedness through careful, sensitive work. As a therapist, I’ll help you see the parts of you (your strengths, your challenges, your patterns) that have been invisible to you until now. After successful therapy, it should feel like you are seeing yourself clearly for the first time.

I work with adults struggling with depression, anxiety, self-esteem/confidence, trauma and relationship issues.
We are all many different things. We have many different feelings. We have many different issues. And we address them (or not) in different ways. We are a handful, and sometimes we need someone else to help figure things out. Human beings have a great capacity for growth and change, and in working together we can find the best version of yourself to be more authentic, happy, peaceful and inspired. My approach is simple: get personal. With an eclectic academic and professional background, I am committed to helping people though a method specific to their needs.

Are you feeling stressed out? Not getting along with others? Is your mind super busy or is it hard to think at all? Are you having trouble calming down and finding rest? Or are you shut down, stuck, unable to move? Every minute our internal experience is changing. Our nervous system is constantly moving up and down. We can feel worried, afraid, anxious one day, and isolated, sad, and exhausted the next. It’s totally normal for our system to fluctuate, but if we spend long periods in one state or another it can take a toll on our body, mind, and spirit.

Often our hurtful experiences are out of our control. You didn’t choose to live with pain. You are tired of feeling alone and misunderstood. The reality is our experiences and memories can shape our beliefs and worldviews, creating guilt, anxiety, shame, anger, and isolation. Living with chronic pain, illness, trauma, anxiety, and grief – does impact us. Even if you don’t feel like it at this very moment, there is part of you that knows they deserve something more, whether it’s self-compassion, healthy connections, pleasure, joy, or the chance to move from surviving to thriving. Let's get curious.

If you're tired of constantly feeling like you need to regain control of your life, I get it. It's common to channel anxiety and stress into productivity, controlling food and criticism for our bodies. We know shame is not a sustainable motivator for change, yet so often it's the tool we come back to time and time again. I enjoy helping clients unpack internalized shame to explore what is holding them back from a more fulfilling life.

Has experience with anxiety, a depressed mood, trying to be perfect, or problematic behaviors been negatively impacting the relationship towards others and yourself? And, does it feel like that no matter what you have tried to do, to fix the difficulties you have encountered, they seem to never truly resolve and they just keep coming back? It can feel extremely frustrating and defeating. I am here to help identify, and enable, a treatment experience that is tailored towards your needs, to help change the relationship you have with difficult experiences and reconnect with what is most important to you in your life.

If you are stressed, depressed, anxious, sad or clueless, let's work together to figure out how to get off the treadmill.
Let me guess....you're here because something isn't going the way you hoped, or maybe life is ambiguous and it feels like a lot to handle on your own. Take a deep breath, and allow me the privilege of being curious with you while we figure it out. Sometimes life hits us with a brick. Don't lose faith. I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and therapist for more than 15 years. We are the experts on ourselves, but we forget about this when life takes an unexpected turn. There is nothing wrong with you that what's right with you cannot fix. Let's start putting the puzzle pieces together in a different way.

Whether you’re seeking therapy for anxiety, self-criticism, or perfectionism, my warm, holistic approach provides a non-judgmental space to seek refuge, process, (dare I say, LAUGH?), and heal.
While certain seasons of life are difficult, they’re oftentimes the catalyst for remarkable self-growth. My goal as your therapist is to help you understand your unique lens and identify what is keeping you stuck. Then we can work together to create a plan that leads you back to a more connected, content, and embodied life. Are you ready to live with more intention, enjoyment, self-awareness, and alignment with your highest self?

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
