With 18 years of clinical experience, I have provided insight-oriented psychotherapy to individuals in the valley for over 13 years now. I believe it is important to carefully tailor therapy to the needs of each individual client and in cooperation with the client. My orientation is predominantly Jungian and my roots are in Depth Psychology, providing the foundation for most of my therapeutic work. Eastern contemplative psychology is also frequently integrated into the treatment. I have experience treating individuals struggling with life questions or transitions, depression, anxiety, substance abuse or self-esteem issues.

I have experience with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, substance use, grief, trauma, & stress management.
I love working with clients who are facing divorce, custody, or other family law issues. As a family lawyer turned therapist, I bring a keen understanding of the legal system to my clinical work with individuals & couples. However, not all of my clients are getting divorced! I also enjoy working with couples who wish to improve their relationships as well as individuals seeking to grow. Many of my clients are lawyers or other professionals who value my ability to analyze issues strategically and understand the challenges of a demanding profession. Drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, & multicultural counseling traditions, I collaborate with clients to explore their concerns, set goals, & develop a plan for moving forward. Life certainly has its ups and downs and I am a firm believer in getting the support that best suits you. Therapy is for anyone who would like to feel better, experience more fulfillment, have more clarity, overcome obstacles, and grow stronger & wiser. I believe we can all benefit from taking the time to better ourselves, yet this process is different for each client. For some it might mean putting proven strategies in place to accomplish goals. For others it might include healing from past traumas in order to move past what is holding them back. Developing effective coping skills is at the foundation of it all.

With COVID-19, the caliber of uncertainty has been raised significantly and this all too often leads to intense worry and fear.
As we move more deeply into the unfamiliar territory of COVID-19, new emotional skills are necessary. Learn how to develop competence to approach this time with emotional resiliency and resolve. In a nurturing and supportive environment, my aim is to provide a safe place for you as an individual or as a couple to experience life more deeply. This challenging time can be used to fall asleep or it can be used to awaken to what limiting beliefs or blocks are getting in the way of you being your best self.

I specialize in working with women, particularly from the ages of 20 - 40. Decisions made in your 20’s and early 30’s can often set the tone for the remainder of your adulthood. People often enter their 20’s feeling confident, and optimistic. However, as life’s challenges begin, the vision and path becomes less clear. Confusion around partners, friendships, family, career, and lifestyle start to take hold. Sometimes past traumas emerge. Unaddressed feelings can develop into depression, and anxiety. Increasing your self-awareness, learning healthy ways to manage feelings, along with behavioral changes can increase your happiness.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
