I specialize in working with teens and adults struggling with eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and trauma.
Oftentimes, how we have learned to get by in life is by doing what has worked, until it doesn't. This results in feeling overwhelmed, stressed, burnt out, frustrated. Our jobs are not exciting anymore, we fight with our loved ones, and sometimes we stop enjoying the things that have inspired us. My hope is that together we can get past unhelpful patterns, learn new skills, and gain new insight.

Hi there, I’m Nydia! I focus on working with adult women struggling with anxiety and relationship distress. I use a compassionate approach providing a safe space where clients can experience the healing powers of grace, empathy, and validation. I believe all behavior makes sense in the larger context of emotions and attachment needs. My approach uses a combination of Emotionally Focused Therapy and Attachment Theory to understand the unmet needs our emotions try to communicate, identify relational patterns we get stuck in, and then use this information to empower clients to find new ways to get previously unmet need satisfied.

I get excited about neural plasticity and the opportunity to help people rewire their brains towards health and healing. I believe that trauma can be healed by working with the body to access our 'stuck children" from early life. I also help people recognize how our cultural and societies influences might be making them unhappy. Specifically our poor treatment of the natural world and loss of relationship with nature. I believe a normal response to an unhealthy culture does involve some depression and or anxiety. I help clients to find peace and strength from within despite the external challenges of the world .

I also explore ways to heal from trauma, anxiety and depression using the breath, body and conscious awareness.
As a strength based therapist, I see infinite potential in all of my clients to live fulfilled and meaningful lives. My therapeutic approach is strength based and uses your innate strengths and abilities to determine the most effective solutions. My work is influenced by two modalities. The first is a family centered practice which uses the your unique family of origin “story" to explore, in which ways, that “story” has influenced your life, love and happiness or unhappiness. The second modality is somatic, I have been extensively trained in utilizing the mind/body/breath connection.

You desire a stronger connection but when it is as if you are speaking a different language than your partner it is lonely & frustrating. Maybe you are experiencing a life change from a change in your relationship, a change in your career or one of the many other things that can take life in new directions & you are feeling pulled in multiple directions & emotions. Attempts at control, avoidance, or perfection have provided you with little to no success.

The path to mental wellness is a journey through the challenges life has placed in our paths. One cannot live a well-connected life without care and attention to one's own mental wellness. Issues related to anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, family discord or marital stumbling blocks distract your mind and derail your lives, causing emotional turmoil and decreased quality to the living experience. Each of us is responsible to attend and maintain our Mental Wellness as to stay relationally healthy and emotionally engaged in the experience of living.

This type of therapy is beneficial for stress, anxiety, and grief.
Through play and music therapy, we can devise plans, which help one find their calm, and recognize worn patterns, allowing one to initiate positive change. Play and music therapy works whether you are young, transitional age, or a mature adult finding your way through changes in life. Music therapy has positive impacts reconnecting our mind, and emotions to our body through the discovery of underlying patterns and deeper psychology. These patterns sometimes cause negativity or depressive behaviors. Individuals who become aware of these patterns are better able to free their self from well-worn paths no longer serving positive ways.

Life can be overwhelming. Ongoing problems can leave us frustrated and defeated. Anxiety, depression, trauma, drug and alcohol dependence, relationship conflict, or isolation make it even harder to cope. The joy and spirit of life that we once had seems far gone. We may feel like we've been holding it together for weeks, months, or even years. At our lowest we lose perspective and believe things will never change. We don't want to be this way anymore. Life shouldn't feel this hard.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
