I specialize in anxiety, depression, school issues, coping skills, family conflict, peer relationships, life transitions, and cultural differences.
I have extensive experience working with teenage and young adult populations; I have worked in a variety of therapeutic settings and am very familiar with the needs facing teenage and young adult populations. Given my experience, I have developed a therapeutic approach that aligns with the needs of these populations; I pride myself on a non-traditional approach to therapy, and focus primarily on meeting my clients where they are. I value providing a safe, comfortable space for teens and young adults to be themselves. I have always found that mental health is as important as physical health and should be treated as such.

I have experience in dealing with relationships, career, family dynamics, depression, anxiety, creative blocks, and trauma-related issues.
There are many reasons to seek therapy. Some are based on circumstances, others on one's history; maybe a cumulative sense of wanting to change, or family or work issues that are bearing down on one's daily living. The journey of self-knowledge is an investment in caring for oneself and one's future. There are patterns in one's thinking and challenging behaviors that can change through insight, understanding, and awareness. I spent several decades working in the film business before becoming a therapist and bring an understanding to creative people who are struggling with their work or in high- stress work conditions.

My practice specializes in COUPLES as well as individuals who want to grow together and let go of old patterns that aren’t serving them anymore. Your therapy has to feel like a 'good fit', so I use my curiosity and experience to help us discover what feels right. People can confront the more difficult parts of themselves in a safe environment. I provide this in our sessions together, bringing warmth, respect and humor to the relationship. Aside from couples, my practice focuses on recovery, codependency, love/sex addiction and avoidance, chronic pain and illness, relationship issues, NPD abuse healing, and anxiety/depression.

With more than 20 years of experience, I work effectively with clients struggling with issues ranging from depression and anxiety to addiction and relationship problems.
I am happy to see the recent focus on the importance of mental health. After a pandemic, difficult social change, and economic uncertainty, it is normal to feel anxiety about the future. I am down to earth and easy to talk to which helps people work through issues more deeply. Using evidence-based approaches, I draw on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and humanistic psychology to help clients move forward in meaningful ways. I tailor therapy to each individual and include all aspects of a person's life, including family dynamics, cultural factors, job/ financial pressures, coping skills and health/ wellness.

As a psychologist, it is my belief that the therapy hour, the therapy relationship, is expressly unique. One that is devoted exclusively to you - where memories of the past stream into thoughts of the future and all is said in a protected, confidential space. Whether you are dealing with relationship or trauma issues, or seeking treatment for symptoms of depression, anxiety or substance use, the process of therapy can serve to clarify underlying feelings, reveal patterns - make the unconscious conscious. In doing so, therapy can enhance a person's sense of empowerment, enrich relationship experiences, illuminate the Self.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
