Trauma, anxiety, and addiction can make you feel stuck. The most important step towards healing is to address the unresolved emotion inside you. Healing requires feelings. Acceptance slowly dissolves pain. When we function from the fear and scarring of our trauma, the cycles continue until we learn how to transmute that energy into love. I apply a Holistic approach that integrates physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual forms of well-being, addressing the “whole” self. Through a holistic framework tailored to your unique needs, the goal is to support you develop a deeper understanding of the self on all these levels.

These types of experiences often lead to shutting down, with feelings of depression and anxiety.
Are you tired of starting each day depressed, stressed, or scared? The simple, but difficult act of calling for help, is certain to begin to decrease those negative feelings. In therapy I don't just sit and listen. It is an interactive process of listening, talking and questioning. The purpose is to decrease pain and suffering, increase understanding and promote growth and change. First is a careful examination of your current situation as well as some review of your life and family history. This assessment allows us to see your strengths and vulnerabilities so we can outline a successful strategy.

I work with people suffering from anxiety and/or depression who wish to deeply explore what is behind the symptoms they are experiencing. I work best with people who need a space to be heard and want to be empowered in their treatment. If you are noticing patterns and themes in your life and are unsure about why you are unable to do things differently despite wanting to change, exploring your foundational experiences can help to get to the root of the matter. Sometimes coping skills and tools are not enough, and I am here to help. I am LGBTQ affirmative, sex positive, and work through a social justice lens.

You’ve been gripped by anxiety. Control over your thoughts and emotions is tenuous at best. Self-doubt has turned you into your own worst critic. You’ve tried to overcome the anxiety by yourself but have only found temporary alleviation. The endless worry has led to burnout and a sense of inadequacy. Even your closest relationships have become strained. You wish you could share your experiences without judgment. You long to live a life free from the constraints of anxiety. If only there were someone who understood what you’re going through and be your guide.

I have extensive experience working with adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, anger, work-life balance, and stress.
I believe that the most effective and lasting changes take place with a strong and supportive client-therapist relationship. I strive to create a comfortable and safe space where my clients can look inward and find their greatest strengths in order to overcome underlying causes and unhealthy patterns that have potentially held them back in the past. Although treatment is not one size fits all, empathy and acceptance are key elements in allowing you to start making positive changes. My goal is to help you take the steps necessary to have the life that you want.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
