You Matter. You are not broken. You may be struggling with past or present trauma, abuse, religious trauma, failures, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, life transitions, or toxic family relationships – but this does not equate to brokenness. My approach to therapy is specific to who you are and what you need at this point in time. I love the work that I do and I am looking forward to helping you find your way to peace and comfort.

I work with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship issues, low self concept, and disordered eating. I connect well with LGBTQIA, ADHD/neurodivergent, highly sensitive people, and those ready to explore themselves deeply. In therapy with me, people often experience shifts toward acceptance and authenticity in how they relate to themselves, connect with others, and live in alignment with their values. I believe that "you are not a machine with broken parts, you are an animal whose needs have not been met." - Johann Hari.

I hold a humanistic view of counseling and wellness. I believe everyone is equipped with the potential to heal and fully experience a life well-lived; however, this potential is sometimes stifled by our past hurts, present fears or a feeling of simply being stuck. While diagnostic language is sometimes helpful and appropriate, my therapeutic approach views human suffering through a non-pathologizing lens. I see humanistic, client-centered treatment as a more powerful, humane and effective alternative to the medical model of mental health care.

I am well acquainted with the issues of depression/bipolar, anxieties and fears, obsessive compulsive disorder, sexual abuse, healthy sexuality, LGBTQ issues, empty nest, life transitions, grief and loss, recovery, addiction and the brain, codependency, cancer (survivor!), inner child work, conflict and communication issues, divorce, blended and intact families.
When I was a girl there was no one to tell my deepest darkest secrets. My life's work is to be a trusted, healing person to those in pain. My therapy room is many things: a confessional, a delivery room, a crucible, a place of radical honesty with a whole lot of grace. Most of all it is a safe place for you to tell your story, to find strength and hope, to cry, and to heal. I embrace a holistic approach which considers your spirit, mind, body, & community.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
