Reaching out for help can be a scary first step, and you are so courageous to be doing so. Every person will face challenges in life in their own unique way. Sometimes we experience so much difficulty dealing with them and end up feeling sad, anxious, frustrated, stuck, or overwhelmed. My goal is to meet you exactly where you are and help you navigate whatever life has thrown your way. I integrate various therapuetic modalities based on the needs of my clients with the goal to help them reduce symptoms of anxiety or depression, better understand themselves, build healthy coping skills, and improve their interpersonal relationships.

I find it a privilege to work with individuals during periods of growth, transition, or challenge in their lives, and have been in private practice for 20 years. I work primarily with the diagnoses of depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating issues, adjustment disorders, and relationship difficulties. My approach to psychotherapy is primarily psychodynamic and depth-oriented. I also have a strong interest in contemporary and relational psychoanalysis. I believe in the therapeutic process for symptom relief, for personal insight, for experiencing new ways of being, and for the deepening of human relationships.

I have experience working with children, teens, and adults who have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, and other symptoms.
Have you tried everything but nothing seems to work? Do you tend to find yourself overreacting to the smallest things daily? Are your negative thoughts in control of your life and how to react to situations? Finding ways to manage your feelings, past experiences, and current relationships can be tricky, especially if you’re trying to do it on your own. You may not have to do it alone though; I could be there with you through this journey. Having a therapist is more than just someone to talk to, it’s someone who can sit with you in the difficult moments in a way that makes sense to you.

The best indicator of whether a person is ready to come to therapy is themselves. When anxiety, depression, trauma or any other kind of psychological distress become central in a person's life-- these things interfere with the things we want to achieve and the happiness we want to experience.

" Your nightmares can cease, you can eliminate panic attacks, you can reclaim your life.
Everywhere you go, you experience reminders of the past even though you are desperately trying to put "the past in the past." When you lie down at night sleep escapes you because your thoughts won't stop racing. You fear having another nightmare. You don’t live life like everyone else Maybe you don’t go to parties anymore. Your friends don’t understand why you don’t date. You feel uncomfortable around strangers. You experience anxiety and depression, but those words don't quite capture your experience.

I utilize evidence-based approaches in my work with children, adolescents, adults, and couples/families, drawing upon techniques originating in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (including exposure-based therapies), Emotion-Focused Therapy, and attachment-based approaches to therapy (including those involving mentalization). I specialize in anxiety, trauma, eating/weight, or relationship issues, and adopt an individualized, culturally sensitive approach with each client. I view therapy as an opportunity for the client to share, to learn, and to grow through a close connection.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
