Now accepting new clients! Life can be down right hard. It becomes exhausting to manage how you feel and how you sometimes respond. Crying easily, worrying, and feeling alone, angry, overwhelmed, and sad are all common signs of depression and anxiety. I want you to know you are not alone. I am here to support you and help you through such a challenging time. It is my desire to assist you in learning how to respond appropriately to triggers for better emotional control and to address unresolved trauma that has left you feeling low, empty, and ashamed. I will incorporate biblical/Christian principles, if requested.

The sexual part of your life is not where you want it to be and you are desperate for change. You and your partner are worried that something might be wrong with you or your relationship. You don’t know where to go for help. This sexual issue is keeping you from being happy and you and/or your partner are depressed and anxious all the time. You think about this all the time. You feel like you don’t know enough about sex and you certainly don’t know how to solve this problem, even though you have tried. No one taught you how to have a healthy and positive sexual identity, so how are you supposed to know how to fix this?

Are you a compassionate, deep-thinking individual looking for a therapist to help you process your experiences without putting you in a box? I love helping smart, multi-layered, sensitive/empathetic people who want to heal their hearts and move toward their dreams. Life can start to pile on layers of painful emotions, fears that the past will repeat itself, and endless messages from other people or from society that can leave you feeling stifled, like you aren't living out your full potential. You might sense that emotional baggage or self-limiting beliefs are holding you back. You might just want to be HAPPIER and more joyful!

In addition to my specializations in trauma, grief, and PMDD, I also have experience with anxiety, body dysmorphia, sex-worker issues, suicide loss, depression, addiction, self-esteem, and women's issues.
Have you experienced childhood trauma or a traumatic event? Or are you looking for a therapist who can help you develop stronger emotional regulation and mind-body connection? I understand the trying times we live in, and how painful life can be at times. My somatic, secular therapy style is laid-back, encouraging, and non-pathologizing. I like to create an atmosphere where you can feel challenged and yet comfortable. I aim to help you identify and feel emotions as they show up in the body, and I use parts work as a way to identify root causes and effectively make manage your inner critic.

Life can be so challenging. Even when "good" things happen to us, it can bring stress and grief. Deciding to work with a counselor is a bold and brave step toward coping with whatever life is giving you. Having a person to help you process issues is liberating. By learning about your strengths and by learning how to use them effectively, you can begin to heal and transform into the person you were meant to be. I have worked with many different presenting issues including anxiety, depression, lgbtqia+ issues, family and parenting issues, school related issues/microaggressions, and many more.

The goal is for my clients to walk away with the same curiosity and unconditional positive regard for themselves that I cultivate with them in our sessions. Through the gentle untying of the knots of trauma along with reinforcement of strengths and resources, the internal compass can once again be recalibrated toward joy, with intention and self-compassion. Sessions with me involve curiosity, education, and concrete practices that will help shift your perspective on your internal and external experiences, and give you the knowledge necessary to get you back in the driver's seat of your life.

I have over a decade of experience in the mental health field in Austin, working with an immensely diverse range of clients in an equally diverse range of environments—from public elementary schools to trails and pastures. I began my career as a campus-based therapist and case manager working in schools providing trauma therapy to children deemed at-risk. From there, I switched from the school setting to working on a horse ranch providing trauma-focused equine therapy to children and families. Prior to opening my own private practice, I was the clinical director of a group practice in Austin focused on inclusive mental healthcare.

Are you tired of being so tired all of the time? I hear you! When you’re used to being the go-to person for so many in your life, you might find yourself wondering, “Who can I go to?” Inside you may feel lonely even though you have family and friends around you all the time. Telling them how you feel? Not an option. They wouldn’t understand or would only use it against you later. Things that have happened in your past might keep popping up, and you can’t understand why you are not over them yet. The feelings feel like too much and you don’t have time for a breakdown.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
