Welcome! I am a LPCC that specializes in work with children, adolescents and adults who are experiencing a wide array of concerns related to relationships, emotional regulation or life transitions. For many, seeking out counseling can be a scary and intimidating first step towards change. As a counselor, my first goal is to create a trusting, therapeutic relationship in the counseling room, and to use this relationship as an agent for change. In session, I'll help uncover patterns in your life that no longer serve you and help you find new ways of being in the world.

I help people who experience depression and anxiety find relief. You’re not sure how it happened, but there they are-those dark feelings you can’t shake. You may be feeling unmotivated and down. You may feel overwhelmed and plagued with constant fears and worries. You may be having a hard time at work or school/college. You don’t feel good enough and your relationships are suffering. These problems feel daunting, but you’re ready to make a change.

My ideal client is someone who is open to working to understand themselves, their world, and their place in it differently. Often times, throughout life, we feel as though there are ways that we "should" or "need to" think, act, feel, and believe. My ideal clients are folks who are willing to look inward to examine these ideas, and whether or not they fit the life they actually want to live. For people who feel out of place in their own lives I hope to be a person that helps them to make sense of things and make the tweaks necessary to enjoy a different measure of fulfillment in life.

What if we as people (and all of our parts) are intrinsically good? What if even our suffering has something kind and wise that it’s trying to say, and all we have to do is listen? With this notion that we could “become friends” with the pain in our hearts and minds and access this intrinsic goodness, I aim to empower my clients to embrace their tenderness and to discover the beauty and brilliance of their authentic selves.

I believe that we all do what we know based on what we have learned, beliefs we have adopted, and/or experiences we have been through. It is my belief that once we become aware of the patterns we have created in our lives, we can then consciously decide to change situations that we are not satisfied with. In order to heal I believe it is important to empower individuals to tell their stories while feeling every emotion without judgment.

Hours are Thursdays & Fridays only. I believe we are created to be in relationship with others. It is something we all desire and pursue as relationships are at the core of our identity as human beings. Relationships can bring us great joy or profound sadness. There is no greater pain and loneliness than to be in an unfulfilling relationship and no greater joy than to have a deep connection with others. If you are in a relationship that isn't working, want to understand what is causing your struggle and find ways to reconnect, please let me know. The best way to reach me is through email.

Hello! My name is Suzanne and I have been working with clients for over 30 years, facilitating self exploration skills, passion in life, and building self esteem! We will address thoughts and feelings; some of which may be faulty and were formed from early childhood. We will learn how our reactions can be based on "learned intuitive behaviors," which then cause "fight, flight, and freeze responses." We will develop positive skills to conquer these reactions, for a healthy sense of self confidence, happiness, and personal strength. It's time to love yourself and live to your fullest potential, happy and passionate about life!

Neurodiversity refers to variances in how our brains function. This can include neurodevelopmental issues such being on the autism spectrum, having ADHD, auditory or sensory processing issues, learning disabilities, and/or neurologically based mental health issues such as chronic anxiety, depression, OCD, or PTSD. These differences in brains styles affect how people perceive the world, communicate, and express and receive love. We do this by offering therapy, coaching, consultation, or education for individuals, couples and families, as well as business consultations.

I often take up the role of a supportive collaborator in your unique healing journey. I intend to embrace everything that you wish to share about who you were, are, and are becoming. A foundation of safety and trust in the therapy room is built in hopes that it may expand to other areas of your life, allowing you space to heal past hurts and explore future possibilities and directions. I enjoy working with clients who find themselves going through difficult life transitions or struggling with factors outside their control (e.g. relational issues, work stressors, identity exploration, socio-political pressures and more).

I believe that everyone deserves a space to tell their story with dignity and respect. I approach everyone I work with, with a trauma-informed, person-centered, and feminist-theory approach. That means I see you as the expert on your life and experiences, I will walk alongside you providing validation and tools along the way, and we will reference the systems/cultures that impact you. I like to work collaboratively to make sure that therapy works for the individual, and not the other way around.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Fort Collins?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
