Psychotherapy is an endeavor that many people seek to improve the overall quality of their lives. Whether one is experiencing conflict within relationships, difficulties coping with stress, a specific life problem, or acute symptoms, the insights, skills and increased awareness that come from psychotherapy can be invaluable. I work with patients to help create and maintain satisfying relationships, decrease emotional distress, develop healthy and effective coping strategies, cultivate self esteem and healthy self image, and increase satisfaction with life.

I employ a variety of evidence based approaches and techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, and Mindfulness/Mentalization based practices. Given the complexity of our lives and the reasons we seek psychotherapy, treatment should be not only goal oriented/focused, but flexible and sensitive to the uniqueness of who we are.

About Me: I am a licensed clinical psychologist affiliated with the faculty private practice of Mt. Sinai Health System. Additionally, I am a supervising psychologist at Mt. Sinai West's Center for Intensive Treatment of Personality Disorders, and assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at Mt. Sinai's Icahn School of Medicine.

Dr. DeMaria has an excellent reputation within the mental health community not only as an expert clinician, but also as a supportive supervisor and colleague. When it comes to intense, insight-oriented psychotherapy, there is no one I would recommend more highly than Dr. DeMaria. Though even with all of his accolades, Dr. DeMaria remains humble and extremely compassionate when treating patients. He has had incredible success in treating very high-risk populations, including patients with personality disorders, suicidal, and self-harm behaviors.
